I'll probably end up getting a shorter antennae eventually. But the long standard one really isn't that noticeable in person. It's the XM/Onstar antennae that's hideous. Plus they put a hole in the center of the back deck for it! That's the #1 reason I said no to both options...

But I did test out the CD Player with White Zombie - La Sexorcisto yesterday.
So how is the base stereo? I'm guessing it's probably not very impressive since all the speakers are tiny, but how would you describe it? I'm assuming there's practically no bass response at all w/o the sub?
Have you tried radio reception without the mast attached? Maybe it's not that bad.
To answer my own question, the radio reception without the antenna mounted is OK. It is definately deminished, but if you live in an area where the radio stations are reasonably powerful you won't have much problem. I'm going to buy one of those stubbies and see if they make much of an improvement over no antenna. At least it will cover up the bare threads.

I have already purchase a 6" model but my car is not here to test, however according to the manufacturer it performs as well as the OEM antenna, we will see.

I've found the shorty antennas will sometimes increase FM reception but at the loss of AM quality.
