I used a similar method, except I just kept molding it with my hand and bending it. I didn't even have to let it sit...it molded pretty quickly. I actually went through the car wash with it by accident and they didn't budge at all. It was a high pressure water car wash, no brushes.
Yeah, that works too. As long as the material is shaped and the surface is clean it'll stick pretty well.
When I got my clear bra, I also got the gravel road kit (below the belt line from behind the front wheels around the back) even though I don't drive on gravel roads. It doubled the price, but no muss, no fuss and no mud flaps. It was my second mod two days after I got the car, the first day I removed the chicklets.

and it's pronounced zed, not zee! ;-)
I had made my own a while back because I love to eat cones at auto-x.
Since they're so large material wise and I got colored magnetic strip they come out more expensive than the Aftershock ones. They keep me cone smear free at least now.
Rudy,
I would definetly be willing to give it a shot. is it possible to ship them flat rather than rolled up?
hi Mike...
Just wanted to let you know that I had dropped off another set of the guards at the USPO this afternoon. Sorry I couldn't do it any sooner as I was under the weather for the past few days and now just trying to play catch up. Let me know when you receive them and how they install.
If you want, I can send you another set to see how they will work on your vehicle if you can't get your current ones on. Just let me know and I'll get another set to you ASAP. Thanks.
rudy
Rudy,
Got the new set in the mail and they are perfect. i really appreciate you standing behind your product. can't wait until the inside replacement rings are ready.

hi Mike...
Glad to be of service. You can dump the first dud set as they're obviously no good.
The interior trim rings are currently in development as I'm having my fabricator, who makes the clear lenses, make a mold for one ring and will be sending me samples of the results to test fit for any significant tolerance shrinkage. If the samples are within tolerance, then I'll start offering those on my site. However, if the shrinkage is significant and it affects sitting flushly on the existing chrome bezel of the vent, then I'll have to get another one made that will be scaled slightly larger to accommodate the percentage of shrinkage. And hopefully, it'll work the second time around, if not the first.
Your car's color looks great with the guards. However, I noticed that you may have set them back a bit too far. As you can see, in the following pic, the back edge of the guard, lines up with the wheel fender's crease line and not the actual wheel well edge like how yours is currently mounted.
But, if they work for you as they are, then I won't argue against it. I just never thought of installing it like how you have it as I didn't think the magnetic material wouldn't stay on that small flat 1" section of the wheel well without buckling or bulging.
I thought I would try something different...so far they are working just fine....I did buy a extra set just in case...thanks for the comments...D. Allen

I agree with spiky3480. We received our guards about a week ago. No trouble putting them on. The magnetic attraction sort of "snaps" them around the curved part of the body. We went on two day trips this week for a total of almost 400 miles, most at highway speeds. The guards stayed on with no worry. They're good for at least [***edited mph].
*** Interpretation 1 "Not one mile over the posted limit, sir".
*** Interpretation 2 "Officer, at the speed I was going, there's no way I could have stopped for that red light".
Seriously, these guards are great! I also asked Rudy about doing a set for the front.
Bill
