Previously I did a similar mod using a trunk release switch, but it was not illuminated and I couldn’t see it at night. So this time I used a fog light switch because it has the momentary normally open switch function and an LED. But it has that extra little dot of light at the top of the button to tell you if the fog lights are on and I didn’t want that. So I used the button from the trunk release switch that I bought earlier. Sanded off the black and made a new icon. Details are at…
Took a while to figure out the wiring, but it’s working well now. My opener remote is stashed up under the dash, and it still uses its own battery. Here’s the finished product…
And here’s a video of the illumination…

BTW, quick question: as you can see in second photo above, the panel illumination knob (left of opener button) is not illuminated. Is everyone's that way or did I yank a wire when I had the dash apart?
Man, Solmio...you are one detailed person! Awesome....you ought to do an in dept how to on this and post it in the appropriate "how to" thread. Nice Work! I have to look at my dash...did you utilize that unused button blank that is residing on most our dashes??? I am still not sure what that was intended for and where did you get the house button for your project? Looks perfect and like it was made to be from the General!!!! Again....Perfectomundo Solmio!!!

Thanks for the kudos y'all!
Yep, used that blank space for the mystery button. As for the house button, scroll down to post 13 in...
Now that is a COOL mod! I'm really impressed with how it turned out.. I'd probably do the same, except the "mystery blank button" is where my traction control button is at. I thought it was on all Solstices, but I guess it's just on the GXPs??
OK, I'm gonna hold that wiring diagram hostage until somebody tells me if their panel illumination knob lights up! Would be kind of ironic if it doesn't?!

my dimmer knob doesn't light up

I dont think mine does either....Too bright out right now to check. But if it doesn't I think our next mod has just presented itself!
Then you'll need to order a fog light switch, maybe 20 bucks or so. I cut off that plastic shell around the pins that you see in the photo on the right in order to get better access to the pins for soldering...
Pop off the button...
I used an old trunk release button I had from another mod. But you could probably use the fog light button it you find a way to eliminate that little light pipe at the top...
Sand off the black paint from the button and get it real smooth...
Apply a mask in the shape of the desired icon...
paint it satin black and remove the mask...
then hit it with several coats of clear. Here is how I wired it. Use diagram at your own risk!!! So far it's working for me and nothing has blown up...
You'll definitely want to connectorize everything. I used spade lugs. Wrapped 'em with tape to keep 'em from rattling. One last thing. The fog light switch has little tabs that engage notches in the hole in the console...
So it won't fit in the mystery hole. Just take a saw and cut new notches.
