Here's a photo montage of my screen. Although I'm not totally satisfied with the final look of the screen Ray from Kappa WindBlade is working with me to address the appearance issues noted in the photo comments.

Kappa WindBlade - a set on Flickr

Note: the order of the pics are messed up. Start at the bottom and work up.

Please leave any comments you may have on the actual picture on Flickr so I know to which photo you are responding to.

thanks, LilRedGXP

P.S. a more thorough review will follow as soon as I get a final resolution to the colour issue.

Automatic, AC, Leather Seating, 6 CD Changer, Monsoon sound, XM radio, Sport Metallic Pedals, did I mention Automatic.

Since my better half doesn't drive stick ... tis better to get an automatic GXP than no GXP at all.

A great how-to pictorial. This is exactly what I was waiting for before deciding whether to go with the glass windscreen. Assuming I am not interested in any lighting or graphics would you recommend it/do it again?

Hey PJ-33,

Yea, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My preference was a real tempered glass solution and that's what I got and at 1/4" thick it's real solid. I would have to agree with Ray that his method of attaching the windscreen is very secure and his windscreen design is less likely to snap off at the ends due to stress. Also, being an in-cabin mount I have no problem with it clearing the top when it goes up and chances of hitting it accidently is remote.

My only issue with the colour really is that it's not applied consistently. Call me a perfectionist but I was hoping for a better colour transfer or reproduction during etching.
However, the story doesn't end here as Ray is looking into other technologies to improve the colour application and I may still get what I was looking for. Will keep you all posted.

On thing to note and I'm not sure if this condition is also present with a plexi-glass version is that you have to get used to seeing the reflection of headlights or tail-lights of cars in front of you that reflect off the glass. It was freaky at first but you get used to it.

If you have anymore questions just ask.

I don't have a flicker account, so I will leave my comment here.
I think they did a great job on the color considering the source image you sent. I own a photography studio and print shop and can say the consistency issues are a result from uneven light on the source image. You would need to have the car photographed in a professional studio to get the light balanced and achieve a consistent color flow for this type of application. Alternatively, someone could spend a lot of time in Photoshop working on the image, but that could get pretty expensive unless you know a college kid that is really good with Photoshop.

Cool idea

Hey don't get me wrong. I love the way the screen turned out. If Ray can enhance the colour reproduction to be more uniform then he will have a far better product to market because of my nitpick if you will.

Appreciate the feedback so far... keep them coming.

My Company has produced exhibits and displays using a direct print on glass and plexi on a Vutek PV2 using UV inks and double striking the image for a more uniformed applcation then bonded for that 3D look when the lights hit it, Never done etching {or a windscreen} before so I am cluless when it comes to ink density applications. I might just give a windscreen a try and see what happens.

Just my 2 cents. I really like the idea of a tempered glass windscreen and really like your design!! However, I am totally disappointed about how it mounts. IMO, the way it mounts looks horrible. I know you will not see it when the seats are in position, but I would think there is a better, more finished way to do it.

This was not intended to be a criticism of your purchase. I do want to thank you for this post as it was very informative for me and I was thinking about one of these windscreens. And again, I love your design!!

No worries mate.

Just an update for those of you who question Ray's business practices...
I have received some preliminary photos of an early version of my windscreen with the new color enhancements and it appears to make it looks worlds better. I'm just waiting to see a lit up shot before deciding to send mine back for the color enhancement treatment. To date, Ray has been in contact with me all the step of the way and I do not second guess my decision in going with him and his real glass product.
