So I finally installed the Flash2Pass garage door opener I've had sitting on my desk for a month now and I just want to smack myself for waiting so long. It took only 3 minutes and worked perfectly. Two of the three minutes was just unplugging the garage door opener, removing the old inside switch and rewiring it to the Flash2Pass indoor module. The part that hooks up to your headlights takes less than a minute to install. No splicing of wires or anything. Two wire taps (thumb screws on either end that pierce the wire with what looks like a needle) are included and the whole process is amazingly simple. Three minutes later, I flashed my brights and my garage door opened. The module for the car and the switch for inside the garage "sense" polarity so you just hook the two wires up in any orientation and it works. I paid $59 for the indoor receiver and car transmitter together and got free shipping. There is the option to screw the module in but there are also grooves that allow you to use a zip tie which is what I did. I zip tied it to one of the support arms which holds the headlight in place. If you've been thinking about this and waiting for someone like me who apparently procrastinates even the most basic things, don't be like me

Flash once, the door opens.
Flash again before it opens all the way, the door stops.
Flash a third time, the door closes from the current "paused" position.

Yes but it might take me a few days... I'm busy giving and grading midterms. TO be honest not much to see... small black box, 2 that connect to the wires running from the headlamp via 2 wiretaps.

Thanks for the update, last time I looked into this they didn't have the second unit available, and the company that was selling it were less than helpful. This site is great! I will order mine soon! Thanks again.

I've had mine for over a month now I think.. still haven't installed it though!

Which wires are for the high beams? That's the only thing that stopped me, I wasn't sure which set were for which light, that.. and with all the tape and wire loom I didn't see a great spot to tap into.

I bought a second transmitter for my other car too... same issue there. I haven't had time to dig out a volt meter to check the wires, so it's still sitting in the box!

laserone,

You said you paid $59, but the web site you gave is asking $79.95. How did you get it for $59??

Are you going to do the Harley too? That's what I really want it for, I have tried a ton of stuff on the bike, first time it rains really hard, time to start over. I carry a small remote in my pocket but it's a pain to find it when I have my hands on the bars and it's raining and I just want to get in the garage. Thanks Joe!

There is no place to put the switch, everywhere gets wet that's the problem and I do ride in the rain, I don't like it much but I do.

You tap the 2 outside wires of the 3 wires that run to the headlamp. I got mine on sale at a company whose exact name escapes me. Is there something like northwest auto works or northern something? It was a random site I found while googling and trying to find the best price.

That would have been Northern Tool... it doesn't appear that they sell this anymore. I bought mine off of Amazon.

Thanks for the tip on the wires. I'm going to have to check it out and see. I would love to see pictures though of where you mounted the box.

**Edit**

I just went and installed this... took me 10 minutes as I didn't see where to put the cable tie, so I went to my handy "project box" and pulled out a piece of that 3M velcro type strips and used that. Here are some pictures:

1) I installed this on the passenger side headlight. Why? Well.. because I have another car in the garage on the drivers side and I had more room to work in the garage on this side!

2) The first picture you can see the box (on the left side of the passenger headlight) along with the blue "taps" provided with the kit.

3) The next picture is a close up of the wire connections. I've never seen a system like this, it was rather simple to use. The blue barrel has screws on both ends that you unscrew. One end has a split which simply slips over the cars wiring. You screw the barrel back on. The other end, you slip the wire from the transmitter box into, and screw it back into the barrel. Seems to make a very secure connection. Repeat for second wire. As Laserone indicated, use the two outside (non black) wires which connect to the head lamp.

4) Another picture from a different angle, showing the transmitter box a little better

5) A picture from the drivers side of the car, showing the completed install. Note: I added the cable ties to clean up the wiring.

6) A picture of the new wall mounted button.

Another note... installing this new wall mounted button does not prevent you from using your current remotes since all you are replacing is the switch, the old remotes in other cars will still work as before.

Now to find the correct wires on my Cobalt and get this installed on that one as well.

Hey, thanks to all for the tips and pics. Received mine today (bought off ebay), installed in just a few minutes, and it works great. Only install issue was on the first attempt one of the taps missed the wire.

The Solstice headlight wiring is really easy to get to - unlike my Canyon which looks like it will be a bit more of a challenge.

I just installed this on my GXP and it is a great product.

BUT, two items that will make things go more quickly and easily.

First, the instructions state that you can go online for specific vehilce info, but there nothing for the Solstice. I played around with my test light and determined that the green and black wires are the ones to tap into.

Second, after I hooked up the wires and confirmed that I had the right ones, the transmitter would not work. I called the toll free number shown on the instructions and reached a real person immediately. I explained the situation and I was told that many of the vehicle transmitters had not been programed for the wall receiver at the factory. This can be done by pushing a paper clip into the small hole on the receiver for about 5 seconds. I followed those directions and now all works as advertised.

No need to try to figure out where to put the opener anymore.
