Street glow has a new thin strip of leds out and I was thinking of putting maybe a 6inch or 9 inch strip under both the drivers and passenger footwell to come on with the maplights when you open the door and dim with the map lights when you close the door. I was thinking of using the red color to go with the red lights in the dash already. What do you guys think of this? Will these strips be too bright you think?

I am still planning on doing something very similar but with super bright LEDs. I think it's a brilliant idea but if they only come on with the maplights, you shouldn't worry about them being too bright. I wouldn't have them 'on' all the time though, that'd be a little ricey.

Personally, i've stayed away from streetglow but that's just more anti-rice personal issues than product quality. I do think it's a great subtle interior mod that can add a lot of functionality.

i was really hoping this thread would be about lengthening the passenger side footwell (ie. relocating the BCM). I just can't stand to let the girl drive, not because of her driving skill but because i don't fit on that side very well.

Thats the reason why I was asking....I am trying to stay away from rice. I do agree that if its on all the time that it is too much hence why I wanted the map light method. What is this super bright LEDs your talkig about? I just may go that way if they are better.

Edit: I should say which one since they have lots.

I'll have pics real soon of mine. I am doing white LED's because I have a surprise instore for you guys with my new interior. They should be off the map lights and I will have a switch to turn them on independently. you will have to use a relay though. The map lights power is opposite of what you would think. They use a non power signal to turn them on and a power signal to turn them off.

weird. I would like to have them on and off with the map lights but including their own switch as well. Actually i'm thinking about implementing full interior lights to a switch box but i have to finish the motion detector build first.

I can't wait to see what you come up with... it'd be even cooler if you include a parts list and wiring instructions

I was thinking of adding some lights down there as well. The LEDs in my new mirror don't appear to be nearly as bright as the lights in the stock mirror.

Martin from GMRoadster has the perfect solution for this and easy instructions on how to do it. I'm sure he will chime in sooner or later.

Wow so I am not the only one! Beecee are you talking footwell lights or maplights? I know GMR did LEDs for the maplights but I am talking LEDs for the footwell connected to the maplights. I am so glad more people are interested because I am close to ordering LEDs and was going to go to a pro to install since I am not good at wiring but unless someone else shows how I might taclke it.

Yup, LEDs for the footwell connected to the maplights. He gave me the lights and told me how to wire them to the maplights and where to run them in my car. But, I forgot! I was waiting to see him at the next meet to take some notes.

I'll have pics up soon on mine, but I put a 9" LED bar under each foot well, and a thin 3" strip stitched into the lowest part on the seat (so you can't see it). Then I installed 6 LED's into the top windshield frame plastic piece thing. You can only see the actual light coming through if you're eye level with them, but they give a nice glow effect when you're out of the car. Overall concept: See the glow, not the lights.

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to wire them. I was going to wire them into the map light as well, but I have to figure out how to diode-isolate them onto a switch, cause I want them to be able turn on when I need them.

I have a few solutions for everyone:

1) 12" Neon tubes, we carry these in every color imaginable. Plenty of even light disbursement and can be wires to either a switch or your map light circuit. The only down fall to these are that they will not dim with your map lights, they are on or off...

2) We too can get the LED tape as it's referred to, I like this product and can get it in white, red, green, blue, and RGB. The RGB Strips need an external controller that allows you to change the color of the LED's on demand.

3) LED Clusters, this is what I gave BeeCee, these are the same units that we used in our Demo Car to replace the map lights and these can also be mounted near the kick panels for floor lighting that can dim with the map lights.

All have there own unique applications and since we have purchase agreements with many wholesale suppliers we can most likely get these items for you at less than retail.

Thank you!

Martin

I like options 2 and 3 you listed. Does option 2 dim with the maplights? How hard is the wiring for someone who lacks expertise in wiring? You have pictures of the LED clusters since I am not sure what that looks like. Also if you can post pics of your setup that be great. What color did you do? I think I will buy from you. Let me know prices since I can find many under 20 bucks.
