front license plate

i am hating on having to install a front license plate on my car. i have a nj inspection coming up so i will need to do it for the short term. does anyone know of a bracket that does not mount in front of the grill? i can not restrict the airflow going through the grill.

lots of talk in the forum on this topic.

This is the suggestion that seems to
have a lot of support.

... just turn the bracket upside down...

The company that makes the hideaway plate is making a motorized one due out this spring. Will keep everyone informed.

FYI, the hideaway bracket only works on the GXP.

If this is not permenant just to pass inspection why not just zip tie it for the inspection then cut em when you are done. You get some freedom on mounting just dont pull it too tight an mark up the grill. I zip tie mine when I have to go on base for the autocrosses

I feel your pain. I just added a front plate too. Here is what I was told after the fact though.

My dealer informed me of a plate mount that requires no screws. It just clips to the grill. Now I know you said you can't block the air flow, and I am unsure why as plenty of air should still get around the plate. Where the plate installs with this GM mount doesn't seems to block much flow anyway.

I would be worried about inspection if you are that worried about air flow.

unless you cut out all the foam behind the grills there really isn't a lot there. 90% of the air comes up behind the the chin spoiler into the radiator

If you do not have a gxp and can't use the hide-away, you can lower it using the 'how-to' link in my signature.
