Funny, but not really, story about my door handles
So it iced pretty good here in Dallas. I went to open my car door and it was frozen stuck. I pulled a bit harder and the door handle mechanism came off! The enture chrome assembly. I tried the passenger side and the same thing happened! It looks like it messed up the lock some too but I didnt have long to look at it as I had to walk to work. (I live really close) Anyhow, I have the insurance company going to look it it today or tomorrow and access the damage. Does anyone have experience seeing this issue? You think it's an easy fix? I would love if the insurance company would give me the money to pay to have it fixed and have a little extra money in my pocket. Thanks.

TomotoSoup, don't bother replying to any of my posts. Your response is always the same and I am unintrested in anything you have to say. I've seen your responses to others as well and it's always the same.

OK - then why ask questions? I don't recall answering your "other posts" but obviously you are too lazy to help yourself by doing something as simple as a search first. And even though I took the time - for you - to do a search and DID answer your question with a specific and explicitly helpful link, you are apparently incapable even of thanks.
I will try to remember who you are in future and not respond. Eff you very much.

How did miller put it? Something like Jareed, why do your posts always end in fail? Ha ha ha.

Jar,
First, the door handle failure is very well understood and happens a lot. There are a plethoria of posts from 2,3,4 and 5 years ago that discuss this problem. Personally I have been reading about it since 2007.
There are two different versions of the door handles. The factory version has the "non-reinforced" mounting lugs. There is an improved version that was designed for the Cobalt. The factory ones fail if you look at them the wrong way (knock on wood) mine are custom painted so I am very careful but I also have 2 sets of spare handles in the box for when I will need them.
While its an easy fix, it requires pulling the interior door panel off the door to get access to the fastners. It is easy but not cheap to fix them if you are paying $60 an hour.
No insurance policy I ever had would have covered failure of the door handles. Please let us know how this turns out for you.
Second, if you get your feelings hurt by people answering your questions in a direct manner than you need to consider the environment.
As has been discussed many times, there are only a few long term members who bother to answer questions any more because we get the same questions in a repetitive manner. And if one of us is not around and paying attention then you may not get any answer at all. The approach we tend to take is to give an answer but to also "teach you how to fish" so that in the future you too can find the answers if they are already out there instead of having to wait on one of us to answer them for you.
We go through the same process that you would go through, that is doing an "external" search using Google or the search engine of your choice because the forum search function is poor at best. The only advantage we have is that generally we know that a particular subject has been addressed in the past and as a result can usually find it quickly.
So part of Soup's answer was to let you know that in the future you should feel free to do your own search and then come and ask additional questions should that search not yield useful results.
I'm sorry but I am at work and I am only one of 2 managers out of 8 that has shown up today and needed a quick respose as I didn't have time to search for one. Most people on here like talking about cars and are happy to provide real answers. I don't think I have ever gotten a legitimate answer from TomatoSoup.
Thanks for the detailed response Rob. As I have $0 deductable, I think I'll just let the insurance company cover it. They haven't rejected the claim yet, and I made sure to explain that it was due to the ice.
Alan, I thought it was a fluke that the driver side one failed, haha. Guess not.

OK, so since you made such a pissy statement, I went and looked at the threads you started asking questions and to which I responded. In three cases (including the one above) I suggested that you do a search first, but in EACH case, performed the search for you AND gave you a 'legitimate' response also by way of a link giving you exactly the information you asked. Here are those other two cases:
So, again, out of six threads where you asked questions, I responded to five and gave you 'legitimate' answers to each. You may confirm this by looking yourself: jareed17 Threads Started - Pontiac Solstice Forum
So, really? No legitimate answers, eh?
