HID lights - where to mount ballasts?

I'm rebuilding one of my HID headlights at the moment. I've never been happy with the ballast mounting scheme I have - double-sided 3M super-sticky-probably-made-from-Happy-Fun-Ball-taped to the underside of the hood.

Where have y'all mounted the ballasts? I have the Morimoto XB55 kit. The ballast boxes are roughly 4" x 3" x 0.5". The ground wire from the harness is pretty short which limits my options unless I want to extend the harness. I'm fine with doing that if necessary but, if anyone else has a good solution that doesn't involve a bunch of wires taped to the bottom of the hood going everywhere, I'd love to see it.

Blue-ish 2006 2.4, Werks stage 1 turbo, GMPP cat-back, TCE Wilwood 6 piston front brakes, 4-piston rears , Stainless brake lines, slotted and drilled rotors, DDM braces, BR Racing coilovers, Spec aluminum flywheel, Spec stage 2 clutch, Werks aluminum radiator, DDM oil catch can, Autometer boost, water and AFR gauges, RKSport hood, Morimoto FX-R HID headlights, GReddy Profec @ 13PSI, custom A-pillar gauge pod. Norm's 430 bumper, vented fenders

You are using projectors right? Because if you've ever been headon with a Solstice with HID and no projectors, it's brutal!! They are worse then normal high-beams....

Mine are the same as TomatoSoup's I extended the harness to plug into the OEM light harness down beside the hood hinge.

Is considered that, wasn't sure if there was enough clearance for the wheel well liner. I guess there is! Thanks.

And, Ghost, yes, I have the projectors.

I have extension harnesses on the output of my ballasts (since I take my headlights on/off more than most owners :-D

My ballasts are down by the fog lights and they run up into the hood....all other wires have been removed.
These helped:

Nope....there is nothing special about my engine bay, so i've never taken a pic of it

What lights do you have?
I'd be interested in seeing how they've held up or if they've been modified by previous owners

I'll send some pics. I had to open one up do to a broken adjustment screw and a bad shroud.

I'm still in the shopping for a car mode but have a relevant question. Who would you suggest getting projectors done by? And can they black them out like the coupes?

Contact Cartman that posted in this thread. He can do pretty much anything you want done to your lights and his work is top notch. He did mine and they turned out great.
