I wasn't sold on the luggage rack for the deck lid (vision impaired, capacity, potential damage to the deck, etc.) so I went another route. Bought the Curt trailer hitch, a Bully cargo carrier, and a 1 1/4 to 2 inch adapter. Got the carrier delivered today and tried it out. It's pretty low. I think I can cut off the extra attach holes to shorten the extension about 4 inches. That will help tuck it in a little more. I'll still have to check clearance on speed bumps to see how much margin I'll have for road pertubations! Including the locking bars (you need two with the extension), total out of pocket was right at $300.

The carrier is 45 x 20 inches with a curved rail to secure your stuff.

This is the biggest piece of luggage we have. It fits nicely! It's 31 x 20 x 11 deep. The wife can get 2 weeks worth of clothes in there for those coming cross country tours!

It does look low. If you want to check out another alternative, take a look at my cross country link.

Yea, that thought passed through my mind. I'll see how much interference risk there is on some test runs.

Out here in the west you'd hit bottom when going through the intersections, due to our integrated drainage "DIPS". Your overhang is awfully long. I'd also worry about your weight so far beyond your rear axil- weight distribution. Soli's is higher and closer to her car for weight distribution.

Maybe a tag along dolly wheel under the far rear, like wheely wheels in dragsters.

Don't plan on hauling lead. Suitcase full of clothes won't weigh much. I found 4" and 6" raised adapters, if needed, to raise it up. I'll get the right lego pieces eventually!

Be careful with items near the right edge - the exhaust is hot enough to melt or burn anything behind the outlet! I have a similar carrier, but it has square edges; I made a two-layer deflector to guide the exhaust under the rack and attached it to the rack corner.

The engineer is not a supporting vendor so I'll send you a pm. Here's another thread from the day I got it installed.

You need an adapter + riser "Adds 12" in Distance From Hitch".

Do a google search for "1 1/4 to 2 inch adapter riser hitch"

Thanks. I found some adapters but your search text popped up the best option so far. I also found some ATV racks that I missed earlier. 39 x 19 with the riser built in. So, starting over, I'd find the smaller ATV rack with the built in riser. I may go for the riser/adapter and return the straight one.

I did road test the straight adapter down our sloped driveway and over speed bumps with no problems. But, for safety margin and aesthetics, the riser option is the way to go.

OK, round 2. Got the adapter/riser today. The 5 inch rise should work just fine. The 2 inch mount is a through hole, but to get to the third hole, you'll hit the rear fascia. So, pic's below are in the second hole. I'll cut off the end so it'll fit the last hole. I'll give it a road test on our upcoming Kerrville, Texas run in a couple of weeks. Total clearance unloaded is now 11 inches.

Tongue capacity is 200lbs, so minus the 40 lbs for the rack and adapter, leaves 160lbs for luggage. There should be no need for the wife to test that capacity!

You're right. There should be no need.

However, she's a woman. This means she'll probably overpack. Your luggage will probably be in the 25-50 pound range. Her luggage will probably......

....well, just let us know how well it handles the full capacity!

Awesome.

And now it also clears the exhaust pipe as well where before it was pretty much in line with it.
