Model railroaders do this for water effects all the time. A hobby store that speciallizes in model trains could help you get the material. You may need to do some finishing or polishing once you remove the tape.

Thats a pretty good idea, I'll look into this.

I have been speaking w/ some friends that work in a few industries that apply the the situation here.

After putting all of the pieces together I think this might be something that we can do.

Yamatd3, will I be stepping on anyones toes if I were to start working on this?

Cutting the letters on the aluminum sill would be a PITA, so cutting the whole oval section out and gluing in a thin plexi-glass piece with that was roughed up or sand blasted, then the letters Solstice or what ever masked off and painted. Only one led would be required to light the plastic. The paint plus clear coat should make it durable.

This idea or finding a large sheet of that blue "timex" glowing material they use in watches would work as well.

Not sure of what that material is, but I know it's out there and available in a think material that you would be able to fit under the door sill and cut out the "text" above.

The sandblasted pexi would do the same affect as the Wind Restrictor engraving.

Electroluminescent Tape, working on it!

My hesitation w/ going that route is that the area WILL get scuffed up so acrylic in my mind is a no-go.

Actually when tyou sandblast the surface it etches it so scuffing may not even happen unless your wearing metal spiked shoes or something. If you're still concerned, another alternative is to use polycarbonate which is tougher. It's also more pricey and requires more effort to work on. But it will be much more durable than acrylic and may give you the same lighting effect that you're trying to acquire. Good luck with the project. Sounds like you'll get some interesting results in the end.

If that's the case, why not use a piece of the 3M material we use for stone chip protection. It's clear, durable, and cheap enough to put a piece over the top and protect anything under it.
