You could get some clear two-part resin and use that. First you would need seal or tape the top of the part. Then flip the sill over and make a small resevoir out of tape all the way around where you want the clear to be. Mix the resin, pour it in, and let it dry. Model railroaders do this for water effects all the time. A hobby store that speciallizes in model trains could help you get the material. You may need to do some finishing or polishing once you remove the tape.
Sweet ... I want lit door sills too. I have another idea that no one else has done (yet), but just never seem to have enough time ... too many other mods on my wish list!

Agree some what to the 2nd suggestion. I wasn't going to say anything and try this at home but this is what I plan on doing.
Cutting the letters on the aluminum sill would be a PITA, so cutting the whole oval section out and gluing in a thin plexi-glass piece with that was roughed up or sand blasted, then the letters Solstice or what ever masked off and painted. Only one led would be required to light the plastic. The paint plus clear coat should make it durable.
This idea or finding a large sheet of that blue "timex" glowing material they use in watches would work as well.
Not sure of what that material is, but I know it's out there and available in a think material that you would be able to fit under the door sill and cut out the "text" above.

The sandblasted pexi would do the same affect as the Wind Restrictor engraving.

Electroluminescent Tape, working on it!

My hesitation w/ going that route is that the area WILL get scuffed up so acrylic in my mind is a no-go.

Actually when tyou sandblast the surface it etches it so scuffing may not even happen unless your wearing metal spiked shoes or something. If you're still concerned, another alternative is to use polycarbonate which is tougher. It's also more pricey and requires more effort to work on. But it will be much more durable than acrylic and may give you the same lighting effect that you're trying to acquire. Good luck with the project. Sounds like you'll get some interesting results in the end.

If that's the case, why not use a piece of the 3M material we use for stone chip protection. It's clear, durable, and cheap enough to put a piece over the top and protect anything under it.
