I would like to revisit the Door sill idea again, is anybody experienced in plastic/aluminum fabrication ?
The Idea is a plastic or better yet brushed aluminum Door sill with the letters "SOLSTICE" that light up when you open the door.

What say you ?

I'm working with one of our vendors on them right now. As soon as we have the set complete, I will post pics.

Finally! I know one of our vendors do this for other cars but would not for us. How long must we wait? I hope the price is very reasonable!

I was told not enough interest from us so they would not invest in the product. This is the one mod I have really wanted granted prices are under $200.

I am asuming anyone with a digital router and mad skills could pull this off ?
They could even do one off's to say something like "Intruder " or "Mad Mods" maybe "Emergency Exit" LOL. If not how many people would be interested in them if "I" figured out a way to make them. I know somebody else is working on them and I don't want any conflict with a Solstice product developer.
Any imput on design or materials would be helpful !

I'm interested...

I hope they don't end up being that expensive. Look at the price of these on ebay and this one is a for a 4 door. Less than $40.

The main problem we are having is the width. our sill width is only about an inch or so. You have to get the LED's in there too which take up some room. we are also using the stock sill and just cutting out the solstice letters. If we have to fab up a whole new sill, I don't think it will happen.

I really don't believe the price is going to be $40. For such a low production item, it will be higher for sure. Just the time it takes to build them costs more than $40. Remember, the $40 ones are made in China where the labor rate is much lower.

If one offs are an option, I'd take a set with red lighting that says "REDLINE". Hopefully a vendor (even one that previously said no) will step up to the plate provided there's enough interest.

That will be hard as the vendor I am working with is just going to cut out the words "SOLSTICE" that are already there. I'm sure someone else might do it though. I'll know more in a few days.

I know asking will get some fire, but I figure, do it first, ask question L8R!

Cant you just cut out the stock letters, cut out metal behind the stock plate, insert neons or whathaveyou, then seal metal opening with plexy or something clear or protectant? Might look a little rough, but it'd get the job done at night. It'd be cheap. For those of you that don't want to do ANY modifications, then this isn't for you, cause you do not wanna cut anything, plus you still wanna pay nothing for it, so it's not going to happen. My 2 cents!

OR....if you want to do it right, cut out a rectangular hole in the stock panel, bondo a thin piece of pelxy into the rectangle. Smooth, paint, clear. Then figure out the back lighting (still inside of metal frame) and you're good. I've done it before, but had an extra inch that our cars don't have! I know they have thin neon strips that limo's use that you can cut to exact lengths, so it's an option.

Agree some what to the 2nd suggestion. I wasn't going to say anything and try this at home but this is what I plan on doing.
Cutting the letters on the aluminum sill would be a PITA, so cutting the whole oval section out and gluing in a thin plexi-glass piece with that was roughed up or sand blasted, then the letters Solstice or what ever masked off and painted. Only one led would be required to light the plastic. The paint plus clear coat should make it durable.
