This was a semi annoying mod ...The thing that took the longest was figuring out how to run the wires from the rear view mirror so that the footwell lights turn on whenever the maplights turn on...and fade out with them also....Figuring out where to put the LEDs was also very tedious...there isn't ANY room under either side...and working down there is even worse....

In the end...Maplights work great and left side footwell turns on when left maplight is on and rightside footwell is on when rightside map light is on...It really makes a HUGE difference when looking for things on the floor or just wanting more light in the car....[/quote]

This is exactly what I want to do. So far I've got the lights, run the wiring so that the footwell lights come on when the door is opened, but I can't figure out how to wire into the maplight switches so that I can turn the lights on independently.

I orginally got my idea to do this from this thread. I ran mine down both sides from the mirror although mine dont turn on when you hit the button on the mirror, only when the doors are open. Thanks for the great idea I love having those lights in the footwell.

Bump. this is my question too... I know those maplights should just pull straight out, but I'm having troubles even getting a grip on them. Any tips for pulling the map lights out?

They're in there pretty tight, and you have to pull at an angle. I poked around in our medicine cabinet and found some little things that look kinda like scissors but have a flat gripping surface on the end. It might have been some sort of eyelash tool. I wiggled and pulled pretty hard (enough that I thought I heard one crack), and they eventually popped right out. Good luck!

had a pair of disposable rubber gloves in my first aid kit. they really helped with getting a better grip on the bulbs. after a lot of swearing i managed to work the bulbs out. they are a wedge base bulb, so if you gently move the bulb back and forth you will eventually get them to come out.
