My theory proved right. The BCM in our cars is fully loaded much like the same unit used in the Cobalt SS.
This week I was lucky to open the mail and find the female sockets in a little baggie. Today I was able to steal some time away from my basic yard list to pull the cover off the BCM and locate the one and only position for the socket.
The moment was tense. What if?
What if nothing happened?
What if something happened and it wasn't good?
Did I ground the circuit first? Yep.
Did I push the socket in all the way? Yep.
Now to plug it back onto the BCM and test it.
Tee-hee-hee. It worked. It actually worked.
All those calls to Delphi. All the letters to GM engineers begging to let me know if I was on the right track. Some replied and some are probably still wondering how I got their names to begin with. Sorry, can't tell you but only to say that it wasn't legal.
Thanks to those parts managers and other employees of GM that have sent me out mystery packages for the information that I needed.
And a fat go-to-heck to the dealers that were unwilling locally to turn on the computer to help me look for the information. It wasn't like I was talking in a foreign language!
Okay so don't ask for video. We all know what this button does and how it works.
I have yet to find a decent dress up surround for it to be mounted in the center console. All others that I have found share time with other buttons.
I need a newer model GM product that is a door lock button that is a stand alone on the door. Newer GM products will also share the same trim colors and circuits.
When I dress this up I will have photos.
It works!!! IT'S ALIVE...ALLIIIIIIIIVE!!!

Hope you will post a nice "How To" with part list when you are all done.
Good Job.

This is such a simple task. Easier that the Chromies. For real.
It's all plug and play. No splicing needed.
So why all the cloak and dagger BS that I had to dance with for the last 4 months is beyond me.
The closest that I got to an answer was an electrical tech at a dealer telling me that it may work and it may not. If not, it can be done but on the side.
I couldn't wait so I plugged it in myself.
It dresses up in the BCM like normal. And why not? The wiring and button came out of a 2005 Cobalt. Like I said, all plug and play.
So find me a door lock button in a newer GM product that it off by itself and not part of other buttons and I can put this to bed and do the 'how-to' for everyone.

So if I understand you right all you need is the socket and a switch and Bob's your uncle?
You sir are a freaking genius!
Right now there is someone in GM sending out an email stating something like, "....there on to us, they have found out how easy it is to do this! We MUST put it in the 2007 model year or all hell wil break loose and we will be flooded with calls!"
The switch, or button, has 3 wires going to it.
1. courtesy backlighting
2. ground
3. wire to BCM
I grounded the ground and crimped down the wire and plugged it into the harness. Clamped down the harness and viola. We be havin' locks Captain.

Well that's cool tweety....an excessive amount of legwork had to be done for such a basic item.......but it goes to show that anything is possible....and the impossible, just takes a little longer
Any chance you could impart some knowledge?....I'm thinking i'd like to do this as well (If that's all right).....a simple wiring diagram with a connector pin number eh?
Thanks

NOT WAITING ANY MORE!
Hmmmm, should I tell you how to do this? Good question, really it is.
Part numbers? No clue. I asked for help and something came in the mail from a forum user.
I have been to the part counter and the sockets are not listed anywhere.
You can order a BCM, you can order the connector ends that are the terminations that plug into stuff, but you can't order the sockets.
My guess is that the electrical dudes in the back get these in bulk supply and populate connectors as needed.
There is a company that can supply you with the bits if you want to call on them. Assuming that your local shop won't let you have any for free. You only need 1! Look up and call on Kent Moore. They supply the OEM people with their stuff. And GASP, the stuff in our cars is NOT GM specific.
And no, NAPA has almost all the other electrical stuff that you could want but not these.
Your local electrical and computer place may have them. I could have sworn that I saw them in a bin with thousands of others but the label was not there so I didn't buy any.
This is an uncotrolled copy of my 'how to'.
1. go to scrap yard and pull apart a 2005 or newer Cobalt, SS if possible.
2. remove the door control with the lock/unlock button, try to remove as much wiring as possible (some places won't allow you to do this but do it anyway-a wingman is good for this)
3. locate female socket, called Micro 64
4. do a lot of legwork and ask a lot of questions and view a lot of dumb looks before going on to step 5.
5. post repeated requests on sites like GMInsidenews or 12volt.com in the hopes that you can come across what you need.
6. locate people on the inside of Delphi and GM to buddy up to in the hopes to get proof that this works, make friends with SAAB manager in UK so he can tell you about your door lock actuator.
7. locate BCM under passenger side feet.
8. take circuit layout for BCM and compare it to the connector end view prints for the Solstice and Cobalt.
9. locate which connector on face of BCM is Connector #1
10. unclamp connector #1, lights will go out
Verify orientation of connector with pictoral of end views.
11. did you locate in the pages which spot on the Cobalt is NOT populated in the Solstice?
12. crimp down socket on wire
13. locate placement and ground button
14. take pliers and hold socket on end and press firmly into connector end.
15. which hole?
16. connector #1, hole #7.
17. cmalp connector back to BCM, lights will come on.
18. test button and laugh like 8 year old.
19. run inside and post your glee.
