Need a new shift knob....

The thread on Christmas Wishlists got me thinking, I'd really like to replace my shift knob... the stock one is boring to me and I don't like the font on the numbers.
(if you don't recall what it looks like)

I like all the vintage Pontiac stuff and was thinking of finding (or making) an old Firebird shift knob or even something inspired by the 40s' Silver Streaks.

Anyone have any ideas? Input?-- I'm a 3d artist and have friends with 3d printing machines so that's an option but I thought I'd ask around first. There's the swapmeet in Pomona, CA I go to frequently but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks!

JPM Coachworks has shifters that replace the stock one. You can't just unscrew the old one. You'll need a complete new shaft and all.

I have one and love it.

I find the stock knob far more attractive than any after market knob I've seen. Those plain round balls turn me right off.

Pehaps a nice bit of burl walnut would be an improvement.....

Ah, but the stock knob was KILLING my hand/wrist. Got JPM's shift lever, then swapped the knob with a Mustang ergo race knob from another vendor and LOVE it.

Really?
How do you shift, hand on top or wrapped around it from the side?

I haven't had any problem with fatigue so far.

I tried both. Had the same problem with my Sunbird shifter when I had it. The shifter presses on the pad below the thumb.

I'm a programmer for a living, and have broken my right wrist, so I definitely have issues.
