New blinker mod and a couple add on's

So I didn't like the fact that at intersection cars coming from the sides had no idea which way I was trying to go. After taking a close look I came up with this.

I took off the side markers and set in three single amber LED's (spaced evenly across the top 2/3rds of the side markers) The markers are deep enough for them to fit flush into the drilled out holes on the back side of the markers without going through the front. Then I resealed over them and the holes with weatherproof clear silicone. The wires run between the marker and the body panel they clip in to and then out at the bottom and spliced into each of the front blinkers (negative to the black and possitive to the light blue for each side).

This is a clip to a short vid.
http://s153.photobucket.com/albums/s...erBlinkers.flv

And a couple pics.

Also, I picked up an extinguisher from Walmart for 10 bucks and the lipped section of the floorspace on the passenger side was a perfect spot to mount it. The exhaust pipe is under that hump (no wires or lines to hit with the screws) and it does not interfeer with a passenger. I hate them on the a-pillars. They create more blind spots but I wanted one in there for the just in case and with some of the routes we take here on our club runs I figure it an added plus to have along with my first aid kits.

and finaly, as some of you know I have had 10" blue neons mounted behind my Norms fiberglass fenders. I decided to add one more to the engine bay to enhance a hood up night display (fits perfect on the hood heat shield right at the down slope of the front side of the air box). It's is wired into the same switch as all the rest I have installed.

All the pictures are 13 to 16kb's each so I'm sorry but I don't get why the first two are sooooo dang huge.

I'm not crazy about the neon, but the signal and fire extinguisher are great ideas.

... I honestly never knew the side markers weren't blinkers. Shows you how much time I spend out of my car!

I always thought GM should have spent the extra $ and made that the side marker blink ... it just makes sense. This is one mod that I am interested in doing.

I was shocked they were not this way from the factor also. I noticed when I was taking inventory of all my bulb numbers for LED and colored bulb replacements. Looking at the bulb it just didn't look like a dual function (double element like the rear) so I tested them for function.

I've actually had the side markers done for about a month now. Just finaly got around to posting it. I drive through heavy traffic on my comute and since I have had them I get a much better reception from other drivers now stopping short and giving way, allowing me to get across in front of them when trying to turn left and I am 99% possitive it is because they can now see which way I am trying to go before they get in front of me. It's mostly down town Oakland traffic so I know it is not just a change in additude of the other drivers for the better.

I've never been a big fan of underglow lighting either but placing them behind the front grills, the rear facia opened honeycombs' and the fenders and now this one. Plus two mini spotlight LED's and light bar in the cabin is a great subtle attention getter during low light parking at shows and events. Doesn't give you that light up the ground around like the under glows. These cars are not spaceships with under thrusters or pots of rice on an electric burner, thier works of art and should be accented properly and tastefully.

And, if they for some ungodly reason burst into flames the bottle is now close at hand.

I read this and couldn't believe it... all this time I thought they were blinkers but never really paid attention since I'm not outside my car when I'm turning

Rather than installing LEDs as shown, is it possible to hook the current lights up to where they stay solid when on but blink when the turn signal is engaged? Again, as previously mentioned in another topic not good with the circuit/electrical stuff

anything is possible. I just decided to take advantage of the full length of the markers and avoid patching in to what could be conflicting lines of operation.

I installed this option today. Works great with one exception, and a word of warning.

I used white LEDs in my stock amber housings. My thinking was the light bulb is white, so the LEDs can be white. Actually clear bulbs have a yellow cast, and white LEDs are white. So my turn signals are yellow through the amber lense of my marker lights. Other than this, I am happy with them. I used silicone to glue them in, so I should be able to remove them without to much trouble. Maybe someday I will try some amber LEDs like Gunny used.

Anyway, thanks Gunny, great idea.

Your welcome, Used the Silicone sealer also. Not so much to make it reversable but to keep the water out of the casing.

There is a simple way to tie the side markers to the turn signals.
AR did mine for me at the Dells last year. I don't know the details on how it was done, but it is a simple cut and splice.

They stay on until the blinkers are on, then depending on if the headlights are on they either blink with the flashers or alternate with the flashers. I forget which way it works.
