With the carpets and all the trim removed, its time to clean everything up and start on construction.
Next is to de-rattle the dash. I have had an annoying rattle for the past year. I found one source on the far right end. Am checking else where before I start putting parts back on the car.

My question is: how the hell do you get the trunk switch out? What is holding it in place?

I will take some pics tomorrow. It's held in with clips molded into the switch body. Because of the structure around the switch, I'm not sure if I could get at it in any case. Without pulling the airbag you can't even see the connecter.
I would just push it through the mount into the dash, then fish it into the glove box and disconnect the plug. You could install a new switch and push it through the hole from inside the dash.
Let me test this and see if it works.

I looked again tonight. The switch has tow alignment tabs and two retention tabs. It is designed to come out through the front of the dash. There appears to be enough slack in the cable to allow you to pull it forward out of the dash and then release the connecters. There is no access to the connecter from the back, even with the air bag removed.

When you get the trunk switch out, can you take a couple of pictures of it so I can see what kind of retainer tabs are on it and where. I would like to take the little sucker out in one piece, if possible. Thanks.
John

Here you go.
The switch has two alighment posts and two locking tabs. If you pull the switch straight out, it should release and come out.
But, in looking at my car, the pigtail to the switch looks too short to pass outside the dash where you could disconnect it. It looks like you need to release the connecter first.

Thank you Rob. I am sure I will now be able to break that switch with no problem. :-)

Rick is the "new" tech that Dave hired specifically to do the V8 swaps. I was told that he had done similar work for several years for a different shop before coming to DDMWorks.
When I showed that video to Devin my local tech he about had a hernia!
But I must admit, I did enjoy it.

Took another look at the dash trunk release switch. I took some pictures of the connector, the connector through the mounting hole and with the switch connected on the end. I confirmed that the wire is long enough to penetrate the dash. It looks very much like you could pull the switch and the wire out through the mounting hole, release the connector, install a new switch and then push the assembly back through the dash into its proper location.
