Mine worked fine on a 2-day trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway. I kept the weighty luggage to the rear of the rack away from the wings that extend over the humps.

In looking at the pics PAO posted, I see that the mounting strap/brackets have been changed in the model I purchased a couple of weeks ago. The whole rack sits higher and further forward. It easily clears the humps as well as the OnStar/phone antenna on the truck lid.

The current instructions do call for the lip to be at the rear. Proper straps will hold the luggage in place and keep it from coming loose in an accident. I'm talking 1" wide, solid nylon ...around 2500# breaking strength. That's a 50g load for a 50# piece of luggage. I don't think most of us would survive half that load. In this configuration, the lip also takes the strain off the straps caused by wind pressure and keeps the straps from stretching and loosening.

By the way, I watched out the back while my gal was driving and saw that the "tabbed bullets" do flex with the weight each time you hit a bump. Ego the dimples that Aspenrose experienced. With the vertical attachment at the front of the rack, there is no flexing there, just at the rear mounts. The "new" rear mounts have much more clearance in the new configuration.

Yeah, I do let my lady drive it ...once in a while. She loves it as much as I do and would never hurt the "Little Beastie".

the rack photos I posted were for the first generation aftermarket rack for the Sol...that was before onstar.....the new racks adjust for the onstar antenna so mounting and attachment instructions as well as the overall design of the rack may be different as well

BTW... I picked my rack up from Kappasphere. It seems their second generation rack is performing better than the original. I managed over 600 miles this past weekend with close to the max load on my rack. No dimples ...no problems. Looks like they have the problem corrected for those who were waiting before purchasing one.

FYI: I tried a new trick with my rack last week. I used "camper tape" under the straps that attach it to the trunk lid. My thinking is that the adhesive foam tape will keep dirt from getting under the straps and grinding into the paint. My 3000+ mile test results will be out soon. And btw... 3000+ miles and averaged 31.0 mpg with my GXP loaded to the hilt, including two adults and the luggage rack with a 50 lb soft duffle.

The "camper tape" worked just as I had hoped, but the sticky stuff was a pain to remove afterward. I would only suggest using it if you were putting the rack on for an extended period of time, say a month or more.

I still get very faint marks that appear to be the result of the outer vertical edge of the rubber backing on the metal straps. This is mostly in the area where the "twist" between the forward and aft straps occurs. I'm looking for a solution to this as well as a way to make the entire rack easier to install and remove.
