I didn't put any sort of protective film on my first Solstice, and I regretted it already by the time I sold it 4 months later. Now it looks like I'm picking up a Deep '08 GXP. I'm just waiting for the paperwork to arrive via FedEx so I can sign it and get it back to the 'states. If all goes well, it'll be in my father's hands next week.
I'm looking for opinions. Subject pretty much says it all, but here's my specific concerns:
Does it yellow over time?
Is it any more or less prone to swirl marks than the factory clear coat?
I know there's hardly any contrast at first between where there's film and no film, but how does the film "wear" over time? (car will be a daily driver, and likely parked outdoors).
Is it easy to remove and repair a bad section? Will the paint underneath be affected?
Anyone get venturesheild or clearbra done and later regret it later? How much later? Why?
I plan to go over the car with a clay bar prior to having the film installed if/when I do it. Should I also wax the car first as well? (by wax, I really mean Zaino - technically not a wax - should I actually WAX it?)
FYI, I'm leaning toward ventureshield, but I'm obviously undecided.
I couldn't find any real differences between the two when I put some on the car. For the record I have small strips under my mud flaps, as well as small triangle shaped pieces in front of the rear wheels.
I've noticed no yellowing of the material after a year on the car (stored in the winter here in Michigan), but be warned.. my car is yellow!. Still, no noticeable difference between what I put on the car and what the factory has under the buttreses on the trunk.
I see no swirl marks or issues with the film at all.. and I Zaino over the top of it just like the paint. Since my car is in the repair shop currently, they will be removing the strips and replacing them. They indicated there is no issues with removal, and will not have to do any touch up or work to the paint or clear coat prior to putting down new strips.
I wouldn't say it's easy to remove.. it's not meant to be removed like velcro or anything where you get multiple attach and detach cycles. It is, however, easy to move around during installing prior to "sticking" it down to the car. So placement is easy.. but can't speak about repair. My triangle pieces have taken MANY cone hits from autocrossing at over 50 MPH speeds, and shown no signs of wear or damage at all.
Have not regretted getting it at all.. and in fact, I'm looking at putting on the front end of the car (whole facia) when I get the car back from the collision shop in a few weeks. I'll just have to wait for the paint to finish curing.. that's all.

Does it yellow over time? Ventureshield is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle not to yellow, crack of fade.
Is it any more or less prone to swirl marks than the factory clear coat? No more prone than any other clear coat.
I know there's hardly any contrast at first between where there's film and no film, but how does the film "wear" over time? (car will be a daily driver, and likely parked outdoors). As long as you clean and maintain the film it will look great for many years to come.
Is it easy to remove and repair a bad section? Will the paint underneath be affected? Yes, it's easy to remove with a little heat, the paint will remain perfect underneath with no glue or residue left over from the film.

(by wax, I really mean Zaino - technically not a wax - should I actually WAX it?) No waxes or finishes other than a paint cleaner and clay bar. Us installers use chemicals to remove any wax or other products from the paint so the film can adhear properly.
FYI, I'm leaning toward ventureshield, but I'm obviously undecided. I like the finish of ventureshield better than the 3M product. It has less orange peel to it. Not only that, but I am a Venturshield installer too.
PM me if you need an installer or a price quote.

Well, 2KWK4U, I presume this is your official announcement thread concerning your return to the ranks of SOC (Solstice Owners Club). Your first post on the subject was 06/30/08, but thanks for starting your own thread about it.
We've all missed your presence here while serving overseas in the military. A big welcome back, my friend.

Well, I'm still overseas until next May. I'll be going through St. Louis on the way back from a TDY to Tokyo and Alaska in August. That'll probably be the only time I get to see my car, though, until next May.
I just couldn't reisist the temptation anymore, so I caved and bought my GXP now, using the color as an excuse. I've always loved Deep, and I knew this would be my last shot at getting a Deep GXP new.
