Like the title says, I finally dynoed my ZFR equipped gxp on 100 octane - 27psi, 18.5* peak advance, full bolt ons, tuned by me.
I know dynojets are typically the highest reading dyno out there, so just to keep perspective, an ion redline LSJ pulleyed down and bolt ons ran 209whp, a 383 stroker/heads/cam camaro ran 405whp, a bolt on and 150 shot chevelle ran 512whp, a K04 GTI 1.8t ran 305-ish whp. All that seemed reasonable to me. My first pull was 434whp, the car was started up after a flash and floored haha. Second pull netted the chart above. I need to update my sig.
Nice numbers, but isn't that like playing with fire, or a grenade? For what you got into this wouldn't you want to have the piece of mind of beefier internals?
Just trying to learn here, as perhaps one day in the future I may upgrade our turbo.
Yessir. Completely stock long block. The only additional modification I'd planned on was port matching the LE5 throttle body to the intake, and the phenolic spacer kit.
It's nice to see what these ZFRs are capable of. I plan on dialing in my tune this spring/early summer and hopefully I'll be able to hit somewhere between 380-400 wtq and whp on 93.

It was on a stock clutch. Towards the end of the tank of 100 octane i put in to do this dyno run, it started slipping. I backed off immediately, and dialed it back to around 22-23 psi, and it seemed to hold fine there.

Although I wont be running 100 octane fuel, I'm planning to run 93 pump and hopefully achieve 400whp and around 400 wtqp but I'll be on the ZFR7163 turbo. I have same mods as you just no ported throttle body.
Your clutch **brand new** will hold for a while. I was tuned on 93 oct getting 467rwhp. It can be done, but I think it pushes the turbo to its max. My stock clutch was slipping in 5th on a 330whp tune on the stock K04. I think torque is a clutches enemy, not necessarily HP.
Holy smokes! You were tuned on 93 with a wr4 (efr 7163) making 467 rwhp?! I was hoping to hit 425whp on 93 lol. And ya thats great news to hear. I figured the stock clutch could hold. Honestly, even if it held for only 15k miles I'd still be completely satisfied with it because its not expensive.
And yes, you are exactly right! Its torque that makes the clutch start slipping. With the power band coming in slower and the full spool of the turbo coming in slower as well, it should be so harsh on the clutch. The ko4r which is what I had, has way quicker spool than a 7163 and made a bunch of torque and a new clutch which has about 8k miles on it now holds the torque just fine.
That is awesome to hear you made that kind of power on a 7163 on pump 93! And that the clutch held. Makes me pretty happy and even more excited!
Oh ya I dont doubt you could hit 500 on E but I bought this turbo because I wanted good power on pump and not have to build the motor or go into a aftermarket clutch. Thats great to know you didnt need a 5th port. I didnt think one was needed, as I believe the factory fueling system maxes out on 93 at about 500whp of course dependant on turbo size, amount of boost ran, etc.
Theres a guy in the cobalt world that hit 517whp on 27.5 psi on his zfr 7163. How many psi on your 7163 did you run to hit your 467 hp number? And I'm assuming your stock engine internals as well?
Looks like the zfr finally shipped out! Once its in I'll have the wastegate setup modified to good fitment and see how the K&N intake will fit up to it. I'm really excited about this project. Have always wanted to try the 7163 on a rwd vehicle!
