I believe the warranty is on the installed parts. If you look at the owners manual, it seems pretty clear that even if you install GM Performance parts and they cause a failure, other than a failure of the installed part itself, it very well may void the warranty.

We bought the extended warrantee. For stuff like the cupholder that fell out. or the little tear starting in the top.

But not for
- The way I punish the clutch
- I beat the hell out of the motor every opportunity I get. It has rubbed off on my wife.
- The transmission gets board shifted sometimes. According to HPT logs less than .4sec. Not great for syncros and shift forks.

But I had no illusions about that when I bought my Wife a her very own hotrod for our first anniversary. The GXP.

But how can any of you honestly worry about what a paltry extra 30 hp might do when there are fellers like me out there DD'vin 425hp? and have been for 12K mi and counting?

Oops, didn't mean "void" the warranty. The warranty won't become voided, but they could refuse to cover the failure under the warranty because of the installed Stage II.

Because if I break It.. It might be more then i can comfortably afford to repair.
And I hate using my visa.

Then the best thing to do is leave the engine and drivetrain alone. Stick to shiny stuff and taking good care of it. Get some ultra lightweight wheels for better handling and accel/decel/mileage.

Follow the service schedule to a T and always either keep the reciept or take it to the dealer.
From what I've learned of the engine and trans so far, I can't see how it would ever let you down.

The staged upgrads for the LSJ do not void any part of your factory warranty.

The upgrade itself has a limited warranty.

I'm sure most factory supplied/authorized upgrades will be this way. Would cut their market down too much if people were worried about voided warranties.

That would be great news Craig...

LSJ is the supercharged engine originally in the cobalt and ION. I think it's being used as an example of an available stage kit that maintained factory warranty.

The continued warranty is part of the reason the GMPP stuff carries a higher price tag. I'm sure a certain # of failures/warranty repairs are factored into the price of the kit. The aftermarket guys don't need to worry about this and can charge substantially less because of it.

Im just hoping that whatever sensors they put in the kit are availible on their own. Im sure they will be useful for aftermarket unes in the future.

I 'm pretty sure that is not true. The only difference between GM and a tuner is that with GM, GM needs to make money, the part supplier needs to make money, the distributer needs to make money, and the dealer needs to make money. When you buy a GMPP part you have 4-5 hands in the cookie jar, with a tuner it's just the tuner and the sofware company.

We'll see what the price is, I can't imagine $1,000.
My stage II kit for my Cobalt SS was $750 (GM Parts Direct $550) and that was a tune, belt, pulleys, and fuel injectors.

$1,000 for a couple sensors and tune is too much.
