ok i just got my GXP in the middle of May. And its not quite fast enough so my question is does anybody know of any makers of pistons, rods, any head work and pretty much anything else i could do to build the motor

Why do you need to upgrade the internals? Have you found its weak spot yet?

A better question is "not quite fast enough for what?"

You have had the GXP for a few months now. Are there mods that you have added already? I would find it difficult to give up the five (5) year 100,000 mile power train warranty for hobby speed.

Forget the internals. Plenty of additoinal power can be had with bolt -ons. First & foremost would be to start at the ECM.

ok i have a RMR exhaust and its not for hobby speed. i am going to build it to drag. So i figued that the motor wont be able to hold the power. I dont know how much power it will hold on stock. But i am going to be shooting for over 600 to the wheels so i wanted to build it before i upgreaded the turbo and all that good stuff. And the warranty i am not sad about loseing that.

I'll bet money that you'll get to 500whp without touching the longblock. Ok maybe springs & retainers just to control valve motion at high rpm/boost.

After that just pistons (I'll be getting wiseco's first set or I know a certian custom piston guy that wont get his wife's lincoln motor back! lol) and rods will be nessicary.

If your really planning some sort of coup-detat' on the ol' lowerend IE 40+psi you better sleeve it and install the lowercap to head stud kit. It's all stuff from GMPP.

Crank is good enough to kiss an engineer over...

BTF - your opinion please -

If the 2.0 is good for 500whp without internals......

What do you think our 2.4 can safely handle?

Carl, the 2.4 is a different animal.

1) crank is longer stroke, not forged steel will it break?-not at 500hp but the bending moment will be higher
2)Rods are ALOT wimpier the GM book describes a compression based fracture in the middle of th rod beam when they hit around 350hp. But that was nitrous and the jug is really tough on parts due to sharpness of the pressure rise.

3)Piston crowns arent designed for sustained high heat. PArt of why the LNF/LSJ pistons are so damn heavy is the powertrain engineers needed a little thermal mass to control crown temps during sustained asswhoopin'. Also the increased stroke/decreased rod ratio puts more skirtload on the piston.

So it comes down to duty cycle really. 300-325whp prolly max, but not everyday! drive with some respect for the parts and it will last long enough for you to want to build a highboost motor.
Then just buy a LNF crank,h-beam rods and forged pistons (hell I 'll build you the shortblock if needs be) stick it under your head and let her have it! the stock sleeves survived to 600hp in GM's torture cell.

Whats really really awesome and people arent taking enough advantage of it is that there is a complete guide and parts availibility to build a KILLER ecotec. GM made good on their promise to make the SBC of the Sport compact world. you can piece together a MONSTER right from your GMPP catalog. Lots of other engine families cant brag about that. Factory hotrod/racing parts.

Thanks BTF - good info. I'll be nice to my stock bottom @ around 300whp.

But look what I have standing by - just in case.......

IM going to start making calls to tremec soon to get that TKO500 setup into a bolt in deal. I'll cnc an adapter if needs be. IM also scared of the clutch coming thru the floor when the GT42 eventually finds it's home under the hood. Maybe lakewood or mcloed can take care of us.
