But ... since you have already made some modifications to your Sol the Stage II would have components you would not need (IIRC). You might be look into the aftermarket tunes that a few are offering - Dejon, Hahn, Westers - all three have an ECM tune for the 2007 GXP.

bi (cough, cough) coastal or not I still have to worry about California emissions standards.
I do want to keep both my worlds green & clean.
How will the Wester's tune affect what I just wrote?

That would be a question for Wester's ... or any other tuner for that matter.
Sorry, I always forget that California has more stringent laws.

Well the GM tune is the only one that will be tested to conform to the laws in all (cough, cough) 50 You may have to wait a bit more for that to be available ... I could also suggest that you could load up the Wester's tune on a spare ECU and then when you are not in CA you could "feel the need"

Wester's tune will work on 91 octane, so It should work on California cars and pass your emissions

I was told the GM tune is due for spring 09. And I want it.
I am doing my best to keep my warranty in tact, but considering that I can't seem to get things fixed at the dealer anyway...
With a new PCM and the box tune from Westers, I'm looking at close to a grand. It's just too much for me to pay and kiss my warranty goodbye at the same time.
Just because it's made by GM racing does NOT mean it will be warranty friendly. Look at the cobalt kits. There is a disclamer of warantee since it's a racing part for racing use.
The warranty issue has been beaten to death, but it only voids the warranty on the actual ECM, unless they can prove it caused and issue. I have had several things fixed under warranty after I got the tune and the dealer knows I have it. Let's see, the differential, looks like it is going again, and I am on my third left rear shock and second front right shock.
The GM tune or it's a arrival, is totally in the hands of Bosch. GM does not do the retune Bosch does, then ships it over here. GM can not even do the tunes for for the GMPP race ECM's for the GXP Bosch does them too. GM can tune the heck out of an NA even with a big turbo, I have seen that done and met the tuner.

Only stage three wasn't warranted on the Cobalts. Likely because it had an NO2 option and a 8 grand redline which the stock valve springs couldn't handle.
Dealer responce to performance mods here in Canada can be a mixed bag. We have no Magnuson act, however the courts would likely side with you if it came to that. While much of the cars warranty would not be affected at all, it could easily be argued that a tune was related in any number of failures.
I have sold performance parts on new GM product for some time with relatively few issues. I have even seen GM fix things that were obviously driver mishap or modification related. It seemed everyone involved turned their head in the name of good customer relations. That being said, I do worry if I popped my engine at 7000rpm, I know I couldn't look at that GM rep. in the eyes without showing at least some guilt. Espesially if my "stock" pcm had no memory of the event. If I had the warranted tune, and something happened, I would stand their and proudly proclaim that the event occured at approaching redline.
I'm certainly not implying that the tune will cause any issue. I only worry that I will have to fight hard if anything does. My hesitation is more about the LNF and it's systems that are new to me. I admit that I run my car up regularily. Odds are, if it's going to happen, it'll happen to a guy like me. And if looked in the eye, my forehead would lilekly blush the word guilty in block letters.
I have counted on my warranty in my budget. It's the reason I bought a new GXP over the old MBRP car. As much as I want more, I just can't give up that piece of mind. If I get a new contract I'm working on, you'll see my ride with Westers and a bigger turbo for sure.
I have always believed in being honest if you have good dealer, so I would just tell the truth. The rev limiter has no limit on a down shift so even stock you could see 7000 rpm, down shift from 4th to 1st that will do it. The PM for GM racing knows my car was the test mule for Westers, so if anything happens, I will depend on good will. GM is betting the future on this engine in many ways, they want good relations and they want to see it's limits. I know the Gardella GXP Dri
