I think the price point might have moved a lot of buyers to other tunes.

I can say I have been running Westers tune for over a year with zero issues, he was the first to crack the code, I have seen and read about the other tunes and am quite sure they are good tunes, but as of yet have seen no info on the smoothness of the tunes gas millage and other things. I will tell you my first tune from Westers was a bit rough, he really has it down now. I still get great gas millage, 25 average and I don't drive slow and it is smoother than stock, zero codes and 26 psi boost on mine. Lyndon Wester has been at this a very long time, he was the first to crack the Corvette ECM back in 1995, he won't sell it until it's right, except to willing test subjects like me, the Solstice is not the first car he tuned for me and it wont' be the last, 4 different cars in the family running Westers tunes. He is teamed up with Dejon, BTF and Saturn Motorsports there is a reason for that.

good points lil-goat. but if the public doesn't know any of that, i would think they are going to find alternative options, most likely due to what folkxrock said which is the price. i know i'm not going to spend $500 on a tune when two other reputable vendors have their own for far less money. no way no how. this is what drives competition. if he wants to get competitive, he's going to have to lower that price point substantially. just my 2 cents.

Or offer a clearly better product - e.g. significantly more power and/or reliability.

However, from what I have read (this is not experience - so take it as my 2 cents), Lyndon does produce more power with his tune and I have not heard of any issues. But the difference in power is not significant enough to justify an additional $300 and shipping to Canada. Personally, I did not want to take a chance insuring my new $340 ECM for $20 to get it over the border.
Unless there is some advertised benefit or difference between the Westers tune and the new additions, it does not make sense to pay more to get the same result.

With all that being said, if I have issues with my new tune, you can bet I will be calling Westers -

Yup. I went with PCM4LESS. It was $150 and is awesome. I am seeing 25psi peaks and 22-23psi. I wouldn't look back, but that's just me.

The market place adjust itself, base on costumers buying power.
GmRoadster is doing a great marketing campaign by actually going directly to the customer base, and not only is he offering a caned tune, but while there, he has secure a Dyno shop where the tune can be customize and that is where you can extract the most out of the tune.
Lyndon of Westers is a very good tuner and he may continue to sell his tune for much more money.
However the competition which by the way is not new to tuning has set the price vs performance bar fairly low in terms of $$$. They have also back it up with Dyno sheets and graphs.
This is ALL good for us the costumers, and how the free market works.
By the way I will hopefully be announcing a surprise together with BTF, if everything goes well for the good of BOTH the Solstice\SKY forum members.
I hope it was going to be today but my source has not come through as of this posting, hopefully tomorrow.
If it happens I will post in BTF Vendor thread, I can not wait.

how much horsepower on the racing tune?

is it driveable?...I remember one of the professional drivers here said he had either all or nothing, the car was not driveable in the streets with his race tune from gm

If I recall correctly, that was the T2 tune, which is different than Lyndon's. That class allowed unlimited boost, and I believe they were pushing the turbo well beyond it's limits, thus causing the high failure rate.

Don't forget. Westers tune has a rpm redline of 7000 and speed limiter removed.

They're doing custom tunes too? Oooooh, that changes things just a bit.

In my mind maybe the biggest handicap Westers has is his location, it adds quite a bit to his costs, and ours. I think all the tunes are good and am glad to see the competion, it is good for all of us. I think Westers may have a slight edge with the the auto tunes. It is always an advantage to the second to offer a product and they can price accordingly. Lyndon Westers spent 100's of hours craking the tune and worked with HP tuners to enable others to tune our cars, in some ways he created his own problem by sharing his methods. I know nothing about the GMR tune or even who is actually doing the tune, I know PCM4less has a lot of experience and a great reputation. I have the latest Westers tune with 26 psi boost and a 7400 rpm rev limit but have not had it dyno'd yet, but I can feel it is better than the previous tune, the numbers are listed in my signature from the last tune, and compared to others my numbers were conservative. I bought HP tuners and for an update Westers just emails me a file and I install it, I love that! I believe the others could most likely do this too, but it adds $495 to the total cost.

ECM Tunes

If you buy HP Tuners VCM suite, you can download Wester's tune yourself. The tune is delivered via email, no wait for Canadian mail. Look ahead, how many of you expect the reflash you buy now to be your last? Wester's gives lifetime updates for free. You may want to tweak whatever tune you get yourself like Mike Malik and I do. Also as the tuners learn more, tunes will improve. Is the vendor you select now going to be around in 3 years?
Will he be at the top of the game? The tune table changes needed to get higher rpm and higher boost are known now. You can do them yourself with knowledge from the HP tuners forum. But they won't take you to the max, Wester's will.
