I would not go that far ... if you peek under the covers you will find that some of the low cost tune offerings are only using the functions that are now available in HPTuners ... or so I have heard
So if one has the skill, are the same results as the Wester's tune possible with HPT, or is the functionality not there, making it a 650$ PCM flasher/data logger?

True but this tread was started by a supporting vendor, to sell HIS product the Westers's tune. The other tuners are not appropriate in this thread only because it was started by a supporting vendor. Kind of like having a Wal-Mart ad in a Sears store. Not taking away from the idea just needs to be in it's own thread, I doubt other suppoting vendors will respond in this thread out of respect.

I have not tried the latest beta for HPT but, I use mine a lot. I just 10 minutes ago reset a cel on a friends G6, it like a lot of other things in my garage is a tool. I have installed tunes for several friends too. People like the BSR becasue it is easy to change the tune back to stock, I can do that in 2 minutes with my HPT, I have a HOT tune for my truck and a millage tune that runs on 87 instead of 93. Lyndon is working on a millage tune for the GXP, I am testing it now. I can drive on a trip get maximum millage then install the HOT tune when I arrive. I believe there is still a version of HPT for $495, so with a tune you are still cheaper than the BSR and you have a data logger and diagnostic tool. It comes with enough credits you can tune up to 4 different cars with it for no additinal money. It all depends on what you want. I love having HPT, but that is just me. For many I am sure it would be a waste of money.

The results would be better then stock but not as good as Wester's as he has a few tricks that are not available in HPTuners. Also you could start with Wester's as a base and then tweek the available settings for your car.

So HP tuners is still pretty much useless when it comes to end user tuning? Why is it all of these supporting vendors can access boost and torque tables, but HPT, supposidly the big name in GM OBD2, can't touch it? I'm glad we have a lot of canned tune choices, but its really kind of embarassing on HPT's part.
I did read the "beta" thread too. It looks like Wester's is the premier and probably the way to go. It's just a shame I need HPT for my cavalier and can't use it on the GXP...
Not true. I'm using HPTuners to make my own tunes, modifying Wester's Tune for my larger turbo upgrades and planning some dyno tests. You can make your own tunes with HP to, but you take some risks if you don't know what you're doing. I don't have the dyno or experience to equal what Wester's offers. But you might consider DIY compared to buying from an inexperienced vendor that has a "great" price.
