Cliffnotes - ZZP is a well known FWD performance vendor. They were the first in the 11's in the quarter on the stock turbo, they are the only ones i know of who will be offering ported/built heads for the LNF, and they are they are going to be offfering some kind of fuel pressure upgrade to support high horsepower applications.
I love the turbo they use - the bullseye BW S256ET - journal bearing turbo that outperforms the GT30r.
They are mixing race fuel and battling some misfire and throttle closing issues, but still squeaked out over 500whp
What do you guys think? Assuming 12% drivetrain loss on the FWD platform, it back calculates to about 550-560hp at the crank on stock internals!!

There are alot of companies who will build your a LNF motor where I live. I can think of at least 5 of the top of my head, but I'm not aloud to post them on this forum please pm if your interested.

Interesting how the FWD guys are going farther/faster. One would think that the Kappa RWD platform would bring out the players, considering it's the more sporting chasis.
I use to love to see ZZP and intense battling for supremacy in the w-body scene. Who are the contenders with the deltas?
Sure there could be 5 shops willing to do an LNF head around here. I can only think of one with experience on the engine itself.
I also read where their power steering is electric so there isn't a load against the engine for that either. btw, the cobalt's clutch is only good for 250whp.
It's an upgraded turbo and on race fuel. I think we can obtain the same BHP with those items.

I know all of them very well and they have all built stand up race cars.
Also GM is Contracting 2 of them right now to build there motors for there race cars as I write this.
One of the companies I'm looking into right now to build me a 500whp monster. All it is coming down to right now is money. If I save up enough then it will get done.

After reading some pro reviews of this cobalt's chassis and suspension, its dominating the FWD scene. We're all aware of it's numbers around "the ring", and even the ride quality has been compared to german chassis.
Other contenders on this platform include our own BTF racing, Hahn, and synapse turbo - what i can think of off the top of my head.
The thing about having a shop to build it is this - if i can't find you then you may as well not exist. If you don't advertise, i'm gonna choose the shop that advertises and puts out solid results on a large public forum.

zzp has been on an upgraded clutch for a while.
yes the don't have power steering drag, but they also loose less through the drive train (3-4% less). So if you back calculate, they are still over 550 at the crank which is tremendous - race fuel and upgraded turbo or not. The pistons/rods/crank are stock!

Would you send me the list of shops? I have been out of the scene for a while. If there are places with more than a few heads under thier belt, it might change my plans.
My comments on sporting chasis' was meant to draw distinction of the drive wheels and the tradition of sporting cars. I need no convincing on the Delta cars attributes. In fact, I believe that I have supported GM's accomplishments in FWD sport compact. Maybe even to a point of obsession.
The Cobalt guys are an interesting bunch. I hang out over on their boards a bit just to pick up the latest tech info. They seem to be a younger crew, sometimes downright unruly but certainly passionate about their cars.
And they certainly don't seem shy about risking a whack of money on tuning and interesting mods!

While ZZP is on top of the game, there will be others to follow. As a Balt owner, I can back up anything here, lol. WERKS will be jumping into the game soon, so hopefully we will be in contention for the top power spot.
Really, my Cobalt handles WAY better (more confidently) than my 350Z ever could have imagined. The ride is sweet, the power is intense (and I am just HP tuned!). I, myself have obtained a 13.05 on just a tune (and motor mounts & sportlines).
I am excited to see what ZZP can do, and I hope shops are willing to follow suit. The Balts are a sort of limited production unit, but it doesn't mean they aren't popular.
I am curious to see how they raised the fuel pressure...

hey - i've seen your name on hptuners forum and cobaltss.net. I didn't know you were associated with werks! You guys should develop an S256 kit for the kappa! I would buy it! Otherwise i'm going to source parts to make it work. And how bout a ported head? That seems to be doing wonders for zzp.
I'm excited that the stock bottom end held up to over double the factory rated power. Sorry if i sound like a broken record, but that is a hell of a feat! The fuel system mod is interesting, but i'm sure its nothing like injectors or a pump. Meaning the fuel system is still relatively stock for over double the power.

Yeah, I just started with WERKS last week actually, lol. But yes, i have seen you around as well, its nice seeing some familiar names over here. I wish I knew how they upped fuel pressure too... I have been thinking how they coulda done it, but I don't know how our pump works well enough to say.
Other reason as to why they are working on the cobalt SS over our platform is because the kappa is dead and even if it wasn't it is such a small market that it isn't worth it for alot of companies to come compete in where as there are a ton more cobalt ss's sold.
So basically the parts you see now is what you will be getting since no new companies will be coming in to our platform.
Actually, you are mistaken. The Balt SS is dead after 2010.5. It has half a model year left, and its axed for the Cruze (bleh). Thus far, from 2008 through 2009, I think there is a total of under 5k LNF cobalts made. Kinda measly numbers to be honest, so there will definitely be under 10k produced in the entire 2.5 years they are making it. Then, when you account for the kids that get em and wreck em, there won't be too many around.
