I was going through a Motor Trend magazine yesterday. And there was a spark plug advertisement for Bosch Iridium Fusion plugs. Got me thinking.

What kind of plugs are even in our GXP's to start with? Anyone bothered upgrading them? If so, to what?

From what I understand our engines are very particular to the type of spark plug used. Most people have not changed the plugs. I had to put in the newer OEM plugs that were hotter bc of the cold start issue, and then regap them to .030" for more compatibility to the tune I am running.

There have been a lot of issues with plugs on this motor. I don't recommend a swap.

On the subject of Spark Plug Gap. New TSB revision out today on new plugs for GM V8s, has caught my eye. It appears to contain information about Iridium Spark Plugs that looks general in nature. Wonder if it would apply to the Solstice Iridium Spark Plugs.

Here is parts of the TSB.

Quote:
Subject: Information on New Spark Plugs and Gapping

Attention: Please disregard the Set Gap Per Vehicle Specification statement on the side of an ACDelco® Iridium Spark Plug Box. The statement will be removed from the boxes in the future.

• A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles.(S.D. adds: not for the Solstice, certain GM V8s only) The new spark plug has an Iridium tip instead of the current Platinum tip. Due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed.

• The new spark plug (S.D. adds: not for the Solstice, certain GM V8s only), P/N XXXXXXXX with AC Delco P/N 41-XXX, is gapped to 1.01 mm (0.040 in) when the spark plug is made.

Notice: The spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. Any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used.

Just wanted to toss it out.

So if you want to change your plugs get a V-8, seems simple enough.
