Yes Mr Wester is indeed doing magic on the tune (and yes I know how but am sworn to secrecy), be aware if you go to a professional shop, they will most likely charge you $100 to license the car and install the tune with the HP tuners. Lots of us will do it for free if you are near by. I know I will for anyone near me. Just Mike has volunteered, DeepblueGXP had said he would. We are all East Coast, but I am sure there are others. I spoke with Lyndon today, he told me he knows what he has to do to get the 2008 working but that the code is totally different. He is working on it as fast as he can. This is a very busy time of year for him, he is doing "pre race season tuning" on several cars and bikes in the shop, that is his main business. He will release the 2008 tune as soon as he can, I know he is working nights and weekends to get it done. I just thought I would do a shameles plug fro Dave and Jeff. Westers has there own 2008 GXP, he has Dejon intercooler and a Solo Street Race exhaust on it.

This tune seems to be more than just boost control. It is as smooth as a stock tune. I also noticed that the MAF sensor reading and the ECU Calculated MAF values are now much closer, previously they were more than 35% apart at WOT. He either found the VE Tables or is using magic. [quote]
Jack,
How do your mass air flow readings before and after the tune compare??
Ratio should be fairly close to the torque improvement you get.

The car is not slower (then the with the MBC), but, the readings (load and MAF) do not seem to hit the previous peaks. The boost is virtually identical to the boost readings I had with the MBC. Remember, I am comparing the new tune with the car when it had the MBC set at 23 psi.
As I said the car seems as fast as it was with the MBC, but, I am getting far more wheel spin in second gear than previously. I might think about putting the drag radials on full time.
From the calls I get, I suspect alot of you readers are considering Wester's race tune. I get questions like "will I get the big hp increase on my car with no mods". The answer is NO! You'll get some, but the stock intercooler and air filter are too restrictive. Lyndon has to de-tune his Race Tune for them. That's one reason why he needs your list of mods. Your paper air filter has got to go. At least get a K&N drop-in, if not a CAI. The stock IC has the flow capacity of a 2"dia x 26" long tube (or less) (the piping and throttle plate have 60% more flow area). In fact I'll bet each intake manifold runner is bigger. Many people spend alot on exhaust systems and hi-flow cats, but it is actually the least restrictive component (according to Lyndon's tests). Running 22 or more PSI on stock components puts much more load on the turbo which has to spin faster to suck in the air and push it thru the Intercooler. The result is hotter air which can cause detonation sooner and shorten turbo life.
After saying that, if you do get the tune with a stock car, you can still upgrade the tune later when you get hardware mods. And if you have an 08, you can still get increased torque with an MBC set to compliment your hardware mods. To give you some ideas, I've started a Staged Mods list on my Solstice/SKY main web page.

I'm stock besides the tune and I have to say that I'm completely happy with the increase in performance that I have seen. I may do some other mods down the road, but I think the word is that a stock GXP with the Wester's tune still puts out 260-270 rwhp, which is a significant bump over the stock 210-220. With that said, as lilgoat has stated before, you'll be up closer to 300 rwhp by modding your intake, IC, cat and exhaust.

I thought the consensus on the K&N dropins is to stay away from them because many people have gotten fouled MAF's and thrown codes with the K&N right out of the box (read not over-oiled).

I installed mine about 1500 miles, with now over 26000 miles and never had CEL
I have the K&N Drop in, Solo CAT, Magnaflow and Dejon Surge valve spring with the Westers Tune, Renee put out 280 RWHP
Sorry I didn't mean to dis anyone with stock mods and Wester's tune, I'm sure the performance improvement is real and well worth the price. It was late and I was cranky, a bad time to post. That said, Lyndon keeps telling me to advise customers to get a better intake and Intercooler to allow the full benefit of his tuning. Remember he customizes it for your list of mods.
I wish I had done more measuring before I took off the stock IC. Has anyone hooked up a boost gauge on the hot side IC pipe to see what psi the turbo has to put out to get 22psi (dash boost)? It would be interesting to measure it at max hp.

Not a problem. It's good to make people aware that the full benefit of the tune can only be had by doing the mods that you listed. It's alost good to let people know that the tune is fun all by itself as well! Once I get 'used' to the tune I'm sure I'll be calling you for an IC upgrade at a minimum!

I'm very anxious to get the tune when it's available for the 08's. Posts like this definitely helps ease my anxiety. Thanks for the info!

I am curious how these changes were made using HPTuners while those features are not accessible through the VCM Suite, and I confirmed this with HPTuners.
