I can't seem to find a thread with the referance, I know the automatic is faster 0-60, due to shifting
but surely there is less horesepoewr at the wheels with an auto, so I would like to see how much horesepower computer shifiting is actually able to over come
does anyone know the differance at the wheels between auto and clutch??
Someone is trying to test now, but the automatics aren't as easy to test from what I understand.
I have been told that the Auto will handle more torque than the manual that is currently installed.

Team Solstice 2008 HOT SHOT Aggressive 2007 GXP Auto-minus On*Star, spoiler, and smokers pkg. Delivered December 4, 2006
Ave mixed driving 26 mpg
2 failed pinion seals...300+ miles, and 9,700+ miles...and one more under recall at 12,636 miles for a grand total of 3!
Driver's outside door handle came apart in May 2008...repaired June 2008
Canvas top replaced June 2008.
Gas cap replaced.
All repairs covered under warranty.
According to Car and Driver, the reason the auto is quicker is that it is calibrated to maintain load and boost between gears. Also that it is easier to launch according to them.
I truely think both cars are about the same 216WHP at the wheels.
Werks said at 209WHP it had some left over so I think the 216WHP for both is true.IMHO

Does it open the wastegate when you slip the clutch and the go pedal is still down?
I dont know for sure, because I generally dont watch the "boost gauge" when driving like that.
You know I was thinking that I might log some of that with the dashhawk just to be sure and yes like you I am a bit busy driving and trying to shift at that point.
Might be a good excuse for a spirited run tomorrow

You can speed shift if you want, pedal floored, tap the clutch and change gears quickly. You might hit the rev limited if you're not quick enough but you'll gain some time doing this.
On some cars theres an ecm mod that once the clutch is engaged a second rev limiter kicks in, normally its around 2000rpm lower then the original one. This keeps the turbo spooled without bouncing off 6300rpm, you'll just be bouncing off 4500 or so rpm till you catch the next gear.

seems to me there should be a performance mode where the wastegate gets locked down

the driver coiuld hit the switch before his shift
Once you lift off the engine isnt under any load so the turbo slows down, doesnt matter if you can manually close the wastegate its not going to help at all.
The srt4 has this "no lift to shift" feature in their staged packages straight from mopar, im sure this feature can be implemented once you crack open the ecm code. If you can reise the rev limiter then you can certainly lower it once the clutch switch is activated for this to work.
The nature of an automatic will usually always have a greater drivetrain loss over a manual. It's just the nature of a viscous coupled transmission. The torque converter will however usually produce more torque than a manual depending upon the torque multiplication ratio. I have no clue about what auto tranny is in the gxp as I just am getting to know mine, but coming from the f-body, corvette, subaru, etc ... this is just how it works.
As for shifting this manual, the "grow a pair" mod works too. I power shifted my car on my test drive and kicked the rear loose in 2nd gear. I drove back and bought the damn thing for $300 under sticker!! I travesty, but I guess a deal considering people are paying msrp + butt rape fee.
I'd like to add that this car is pretty easy to power shift... Did some "breaking in" of the car the other day. Pretty fun to do as it produces a noteable back fire on each shift. Chirping 3rd is pretty nice too. lol.
