Is it or has it been flowed, ported, polished or any of that stuff?

I'm looking into some custom cams, which may eventually be reproduced. When my head is off I'll get it bench flowed, and look into mild porting. This wont be for a few months though, military pay isnt that good.

Good luck on the Cams, how radical are you going or mild are you going. It will be nice to know how good the head flows before and after. I know with today’s technology there may not be much room for improvement, but who knows maybe.
Thanks Colorado Kid

Reason: Added more
From what I've read on Jbody.org and cobaltss.net, the ecotec heads are designed more for torque (gas velocity) rather than high end hp (gas flow). While all of the eco family engines have a broad usable power range, most of them drop off after ~5.5k rpm. If you're building a N/A screamer or a high power boosted engine, head work will definitely benefit you. For more mild builds, the stock flowing head is adequate.

I have heard contrary to what you are stating that head work is good trade for a boosted engine.
As such, can you provide more detail, data, and facts inside this thread about our ecotec heads to support your position?
Thanks

Vin2020, you may have misunderstood me - porting the ecotec head woud greatly benefit the powerplant with any kind of forced induction. If you look at a stock 2.2 eco dyno, which I do not have handy, you can see a power drop off after 5.5k rpm, I believe peak is about 5400rpm. Peak torque is about 4500 rpm. In high power N/A applications, the stock eco head would struggle to breath past the stock redline, even with more aggressive cams. For more info, look up PJ aka "daflyinskwirl" on j-body.org - the jbody organization
The 2.4VVT could be an exception if a savy tuner properly manipulates the VVT - yielding more top end gains while maintaining the low rpm response.
Hope this makes sense
