Here's the listing from GM Parts Direct:
17802058 Cat-Back Exhaust System Muffler w/ intermediate pipe, catalytic pipe and 2 clamps (Requires choice of 17802059 or 17802060)
here is a pic I shot while the prep guy was in process of installing system. It's the stock system after removal, the catback is in the upper left corner of the pic. Exhausts
Thank you first.
Now that I have been abled to see the pictures, it is still the same diameter pipe, since it actually connects to the same pipe that is attached to the converter. The reason for the new pipe is the way the new muffler (Cat back) is designed, in the old muffler the intake side pipe is hooked to the body of the muffler, on the new one it comes from the opposite side of the muffler for a better unrestricted flow.
Well it looks like I have to wait for Stainless Works to get a car for the designed of the 3" pipe and the dual outlet muffler. I can not believe there is no one near Cleveland that would not want to have the exhaust modified, were are talking with tunning some where in the neighborhood of 20-25HP more with the headers, new pipe and new muffler, you can save yourself $400.00 if you want to do this.
Thanks again for all your great info and pictures.

No problem, LV Wish I did live near Cleveland. I would have taken that offer when you first gave it.
Glad I could give everyone some needed info.

The benefit of this system is less restrictive bends and a higher flowing muffler. If you notice the normal exhuast enters in the middle of the muffler itself. On this GM exhaust the pipe enters on the far end. Probably has a more straight though design then some odd round about looping design.
GM has also said the system is mainly designed to provide a better sounding exhaust, any performance gains are a benefit and not the main design focus.
I believe the KappaSphere exhaust is pretty much the same design type, just with an even less restrictive muffler.
I would really like to know what I will need to do to disable the door chime!!
Someone tell me!!!!!!!!!

Yeah GMLDG or someone should know. On my car it is a module behind the dash that can be accessed by a flap at the a-pillar / door hinge area. I just took a screw driver and pried it up until the prongs didn't make contact anymore.
Thank you first.

You will not see more than 15-18 rwhp from a header and cat-back on this car. Tuning calibrations are essential to making power and will not be available for some time. Removing excess fuel is key to making power on this car. NO degree of exhaust scavenging is going to drop the A/F 2 full points to bring the fueling back in line.
I have tested the OEM and two derivative 2.5" and 3" systems. A 3" system for a 145 rwhp car is totally unnecessary. A single 3" will support OVER two times what the Solstice is capable of at the wheels. A single 2.5" system can easily support 200-250 WHP.
The reason for the 3" is because I am going to put a SC on the car with all the above Mods, so we are talking 265 or higher RWHP, and yes tunning is also need it on this car, Allen of StainlessWorks who manufacture the headers I am speaking off, said from the very beginning the car needs tunning. You may want to read his thread on this forum.
