Chemist.....Can you post a sound byte? I'm REAL interested to hear what you can get out of a 4-banger with headers. I'm hopeful it would sound better than a Fart Pipe a sixteen year-old would throw on his Civic, which would probably not be apropos for a 47 year-old guy in a Solstice! I would be REAL impressed if the headers produced a nice 'throaty' rumble. PLEASE post if possible.........I know there will be at least one smart%&@ that will post " VRUUUMMM RUUUUUM VROOOOOMMMMMMM"

Tuxford,
what I mean about tightening is not so much cranking down until something brekas, rather tightening every day or often. The aluminum is so soft even a small turn of the wrench will squash the gasket. Little by little the gasket will deform. I don't know if this is happening with yours or not. As thick as the gasket is and as much meat as there is around the center hole and the bolt holes, it doesn't make sense why the gasket would start to move. I do know I will be getting a quote for the next batch in copper.

Anyways, I do need your address as you are not in my UPS database any longer.

Please email me directly and I'll get another gasket out.

I may be 18 but there's no way I'm making this car into a ricer.

SolScuba, I've had my Clear Image headers installed since summer. I installed them just shortly after I installed a MagnaFlow catback performance exhaust. The headers didn't really make the exhaust louder but added a nice deeper tone to it. My exhaust doesn't sound like a fart can. I also have a Fujita CAI and a Vector Performance re-tune from Chris (1 year ago). All these combine to give a the exhaust a nice sound and great performance for the car just like Gizmo said.

Now I'm waiting for my Clear Image Hi-Flow cat (on back order-3 weeks out). I don't expect this addition to change the loudness but enhance the tone a little more and a little performance for the car.

You won't go wrong with these mods to your car.

I don't have them yet. But they are on order now. I have the GM Cold Air Induction. On order I have the Longtube header with hiflow cat and dual exhaust from clearimage. At the same time of getting that installed I'm hoping to get the Big Bore Throttle Body put on. After all of those installs I'm driving over to Detroit and getting ECM retuned. I should hopefully have a vehicle close to GXP numbers.

My system sounds enough like ripple's to not make my chasing down my video camera worthwhile. I think my Flowmaster is slightly different in tone, but very close to the Magnaflow.

What kind of dollars do you have in that setup? Also, anybody replacing the CATS with test pipes?

With the addition of the Hi-Flow CAT, I'll have about $1800 into the performance mods. I did them a few at a time, like Chemist, Gizmo and others here on the Forum. Actually it was Ripple's audio/video clip that convinced me to get the Hi-Flow CAT.

I would also like to do the BB throttle body swap but I'm not sure it will yield that much more performance wise. Every thread regarding that mod becomes a debate and I never get enough info to make a good decision. I know Giz installed one but I've not heard how it has effected the performance of his car.

I always proceed slowly with mods because my wife and I share this car (30th wedding aniversary present to each other) and want to make sure she's okay with them and their results on the car. She drives it too. I taught her how to drive a manual in three lessons. She gotten pretty good at putting the car through it's paces.

I have the same setup as Gizmo and have also installed the Big bore throttle body. It has not made a huge increase, but the car does respond quicker to the throttle and pulls smoother. I think it was worth the money.

Money into my setup:

Long tube header: $495
Hi-flow cat: $200
Dual Exhaust: $450
Norm's Rear Diffuser: $500
Exhaust Install: $300
GM CAI: $200 (Used)
Vector ECM Retune: $400

I pretty much have it all paid for. I'm just waiting for my car to come back out of storage before the install is done. I just ordered the exhaust from ClearImage last night though to be sent over to Norm's and they're doing the install.

After my dyno tune in June, I'll make another run on the dyno with the stock throttle body. That will give us a pretty precise measurement of it. I don't expect it to be much improvement, but I wanted to give MARiSOL the best in terms of breathing, in and out. So she got the CAI, BB throttle body, ClearImage long-tube exhaust header and catalytic converter, and Magnaflow dual-exit exhaust. She's got GREAT lungs!

I run 10 second 1/4 mile, my Sol is a bit slower than that.

Geez, imagine how much faster you'd be if you tried it with a car!

In college, I ran the mile under 6 minutes, so I ran a (less than) 90 second 1/4 mile.
I just don't run fast, and I'm a lot slower now.
