I can tell you the "new" clutch is good ... I had the Exedy in there for a short time .... really took a lot to depress the pedal ... really bad in traffic ... the new one is about like stock ... I love it.

I customized mine by having a factory feel pressure plate with an unsprung 6 puck that launches as soon as the disc makes contact with flywheel. It's something you have to get use to or you'll always stall. It's tha Fidanza that causes the vibration if not mistakening. I can let u know definitely when i get my car back. I'm going back to factory fly wheel with custom clutch.
yeahyeah......kepp me posted.... i don't have a grasp on sprung unsprung 4-6 solid etc.......need more input for sure

well just bolting on a flywheel especially a cheaper one like the fidanza I'd expect some vibration, mine is getting balanced with the rotating assembly, no vibration for me....

I have the spec fly and clutch. no issues, but as one would expect it is some extra work for the leg.

i appreciate what you're saying but need a lil more info for it to be useful....
..
which flywheel / whose did you go with - which clutch - who does the balancing with the rotating assembly.......same place ? give me a hint..lol...

i KNOW carl didn't go cheap... least i don't see $900 as cheap ? ...when you don't know ? guessing what you need - or what to get ?? its easy to make a poor choice.......

i keep thinkin dave will take some time to describe the differences in the clutches he offers and what makes the "special one " special.......if you read the descriptions - pretty generic - almost say the same things

you sound like you know more than me and carl - expand a lil bit

my mechanic said " we don't want a spec " but assumed i'd know the best options.......or get "the options" to pick from.......
he'll know how to install it but has no clue or inclination to figure it out for me.......... i usually get pointed in the right direction here......lots of knowledge and experience...... so far i haven't learned a thing cept fidanza sucks....... thats good to know
but ????????????
still waitin on the high tech definitive experienced opinions...some clutch talk !
..options....more........

i'm not the only one interested ... guess i need to hit some other forums too ?

Spec seems to be hit and miss on the quality of their clutches. Some break, some don't, at the same power level. I wouldn't say fidanza 'sucks', its cheap, and if you get it balanced with your rotating assembly, it'll be just as good as any other flywheel.

My motor is being built and fully balanced by headway performance in the bronx

centerforce

told to look into centerforce.....keep stock flywheel and just replace with a centerforce clutch ??

...i dunno what they offer......

someone describe our stock clutch ?? what makes other options compatible.....anything in particular to take in consideration

just tryin to learn and i don't know much about the stock clutch...sprung unsprung ..4 0r 6...( what does that actually represent ?)....self adjusting or not ??
jeezz what does all that mean??
what do we have / what do i want
...what can be changed .. where the differences in the upgrades start and stop....... just anything to get me motivated....... yeah yeah.... draggin my feet on this.......
i guess i need to know/want to know more about the stock clutch and what those other things mean ?.... maybe if i knew more about this one - a starting point ?... the process might make more sense...... i just wanna understand a lil more before i roll the dice

According to a wiki article "The splined hub is attached to the disc with springs to damp chatter."

don't wanna assume/ guessing

i don't want to guess
are the clutches the same oem in both 2.4 and 2.0 ?
i know we share transmission with other platforms - does that mean we share clutch too ?....... i was looking and didn't see solstice listed and wondered if i searched under another platform - colorado truck ? whatever ?lol...i didn't know the make of a colorado sooooo couldn't check that out

i know this tranny is not unique to solstice only - my question is what other cars / trucks share the same clutch...
...or is that a stupid question

I bought a GXP clutch to see if it would bolt to the 2.4 flywheel.....nope! Gave it to the boys at DDM.

lsj and lnf clutches and flywheels are not compatible with the le5. l61 clutches and flywheels are, however.

sprung clutches have springs that dampen the harshness of the clutch engagement. unsprung clutches are pretty rough to drive on the street, shorten the life of your transmission, and are more prone to chatter than sprung.

Keep asking zzzbil - I among others want to know more as well.

Dave - What makes the DDM clutch the right choice?
