Ok I must ask, and I am pretty bummed out about this but how come GM will come out with tune for the GXPs but not the NA? A tune with warranty seems better but is it because they can't come out with a tune when they don't know what mods people have done? I mean how does GMs tune help GXP owners who have made mods? You want a tune that will account for the mods you have done right?

Its more than just a "tune" .... it includes the mods to go along with the tune in order to get to the 300+hp that has been discussed.

They found through the T2 race car that this was a feasible option and I suspect why it will now be offered as a GMPP.

Oh .... and IIRC it will not help those GXP owners who have already made the mods to their cars that are included in the Stage II offering - which if IIRC will be priced around $1k.

So you have to get a stage II package to get the tune? That is why no tune for the NA.

That's what I understood when at MECCA II.

Well then that all makes sense to me now. I thought it was just a regular tune that anyone can buy and put it on no matter what they have. Thanks!

There are quite a few reasons.
  1. N/A cars generally don't gain as much performance with out some sort of FI solution. GM has in the past added FI to an NA setup, but it isn't often that you see it. Examples: Cavalier, Sunfire, Vibe all received Supercharger kits.
  2. The GM Performance kits do not support any prior modifications done to the car. The manufacturer does not support modifications in general and therefore would not support tuning the car for them. The kits come with the parts and the tune that supports said parts.
  3. I doubt you will see a kit come out for the N/A since when GM does make performance kits it is usually for the high end car. Their view is if you wanted performance you would have bought the GXP not the N/A, especially since there is such a small price difference if you add in the options.

My honest opinion would be get HP Tuners or go to a dyno shop that will tune for you.

Well said! I now understand that much better.

What else is in the kit besides the tune? A couple new sensors?

Moms, just want to clarify to make sure I am reading this right. The tune comes with the "mods" for 1K. By mods are we talking about the GMPP exhaust and CAI? If that's the case, then those that have already put on catbacks etc... wouldn't be able to get the tune unless they were willing to put on the GMPP parts? Thanks...

I don't recall the the exhaust or CAI being discussed ... much info can be found here:
It's official SETUP announces GMPP STAGE KIT for GXP (confirmed at MECCA II)

It does say KIT .... but I don't recall 'all' that was contained in that KIT - but I do remember that it was more than just a "tune" of the ECM.

?????So it's official? There is a GM upgrade for the GXP? Up to now all I have seen are rumours. So where and how do I get it? Is it 300hp? Did I miss it in the "new posts" section? Easy to do since they mostly contain 'politics' these days.

The kit still is not released yet. 2 weeks ago I spoke with a GMPP rep and he informed me that even though it was supposed to be released this month it is looking more like the end of the year. I fully expected this since everytime a GMPP kit is spoken about with a release date they usually miss it by at least a year. So figure 2009 for the kit. Not 100% sure what will be in it but things I heard about where intercooler, fuel rail, and tune. I heard nothing about an intake or exhaust. And again the tune is specific to the GMPP parts. If somebody wants to read the flash with HP Tuners and install it on other peoples GXPs they are more then welcome to. That is what we did for the Cavalier guys. We took the SAAB 9-3 2.0 Turbo setup and the 2.2L Ecotec supercharger tune to make a custom setup that we thought worked pretty well. Personally if you are going for all out performance look at the haun options, get the intercooler and the bsr tune. If you want warranty go with the GM setup.

Sorry, I posted a link here that pretty well established the 'not a rumor anymore' factor here:
