Hey guys,
I've got another question about the Performance Intake. I'm not really into conical air filters as it usually produces a loud noise while just cruising. I assume this is the same with this aftermarket part on this car. What I WOULD like to replace is the air tube that goes from the stock air box, to the throttle body. Does anyone know if the air intake tube from the performance air intake system will easily replace the stock air tube and still allow me to use the stock air box? Ideally, I'd like to find something of just slightly larger diameter to the stock air tube, but designed identically to it. The same ribbed rubber hose look. I'd really like to get rid of that massive air box that sites on the side. I'm assuming that's some sort of resonant chamber.. or maybe I should say anti-resonant chamber. Is this correct? I'd suspect that being right near the bend there that it probably catches a lot of air flow and disturbes the flow at high rpms.
Also, a couple of other questions. When I opened the stock air box, It appeared to me that the stock air filter is made of fabric! I've never seen one that looks like this before. All the other ones I've seen are usually paper. Would it benefit me at all to replace it with a K&N air filter? Does K&N actually make a replacement air filter for this car yet? Or is the stock air filter something that's better than stock.
Also, I didn't look, but does anyone know if this car uses a MAF system? I know that overly oiling the K&N can cause a buildup on the MAF sensor. Just curious.
Oh! Last question... does anyone know if they sell a slightly larger throttle body for the Solstice yet? I don't know if other Ecotecs have the DBW throttle bodies, but if they do, do they sell any TB's that provide more air flow? And... on a stock motor, is the TB at all a restriction?
I know that on my 2002 Crown Vic, I went with a 70mm TB over the stock 65mm TB and it really woke the car up in the upper rpms (there's no tach so I can't say exactly where in the rpm range).
Thanks!!!
