Well this part is only for people who have a specific performance exhaust. It won't fit the stock exhaust or performance exhausts that are not 3". They state it will only fit the GM exhaust, but I figure it should fit the KS1 as well. If not, I'll send it back also.

Not an expert on this, but in theory, I don't think resonators wear out. They do not absorb sound like a glasspack but they reduce resonance through reflection of sound inside a chamber.

"On your typical cat-back exhaust system, you'll see a couple of bulges in the piping that are apparently mini-mufflers out to help the big muffler that hangs out back. These are called Helmholtz Resonators and are very similar to glasspacks. The main difference is that firstly, there is no sound-absorbing fiberglass or steel wool in a Resonator. And secondly, their main method of silencing is the reflective principle, not absorption. An easy way to tell the difference between a glasspack and a true Helmholtz Resonator is to "ping" one with your finger. A glasspack will make a dull thud, and a true Resonator will make a clear "ping!" sound. "

On a side note, for what it's worth, I put B-quiet on the underside of the trunk area above the muffler, in the entire trunk area and then a layer of V-comp inside the trunk just above the muffler and tip. These helped reduce the noise but the #1 thing that killed resonance to a tolerable level was the resonator.

If you look at the Summit Racing site under exhaust inserts, you will see the ones I am talking about. They come in different sizes. I got the 2.5 inch one and put it in the main pipe just in front of the muffler. My exhaust installer cut the pipe, put the insert in there and tack welded it in place, so it can't move around. He then rewelded my pipe shut and BINGO, no more harsh noises. Muffler sounds great now and no change in performance.

It's a big jump in volume, expecially when you you romp on it. I have a stock header/cat, a K&N filter in the stock intake, and a vector computer tune. I've considered adding a flowmaster resonator, but I'm used to the volume now.

Here's a link to the flowmaster res.

I just noticed it's 3" in and out, so you'd need the venturi reducers also.

Is the Flowmaster Hushpower II Resonator a better choice than the universal version mentioned? It is certainly smaller. With my Magnaflow exhaust, I am not sure there is enough room for the universal version.

The muffler shop wanted to sell me a resonator with fiberglass. I assume the Flowmaster Hushpower II Resonator has no fiberglass? It certainly is much more expensive.

My little Solstice makes enough noise for a bus! At least when I step on it. With all that noise it ought to beat a GXP!
