Ok been planning this for some time and finally got all the parts and installed part one today the stock intake silencer delete my way. I did not want to just plug the hole and though why not make a new pipe without the hole in in for the silencer box. I then put a breather filter instead of running it back to the intake pipe(like how they did that in the turbo kit photos). so a silicon elbow, coupler, 3" polished aluminum pipe bent, and breather filter really dresses up the engine compartment. My car is aggressive so I went with the red silicon to dress it up a bit. Let me know what you all think. Part two will be the actual air-box that I am chopping the front off and making a fiberglass ram-air. (I have a second air-box I bought so I don't mess up my original.

I suggest plugging the breather port back into the intake, the pcv valve works on vacuum and it gets it from the intake. You can put a little filter in between the two if you want to filter any oil, but it should be plugged in. You will also get a ticket for the breather filter if a cop stops you and pokes around the engine bay.

Other then that it looks pretty nice

that is really cool and ingenious. Don't those breathers usually get oil all over your engine bay? I think shabby might be right about keeping that hooked up. Have someone braze a bung on there to connect a tube to the cam cover.

That setup looks really good and I'll bet it is a lot less than $300. As for the breather some times we have to do it like we did in the good old days. For instance when we put on a turbo-charger. See the 257WHP Turbo-Charged Solstice thread, page 20, post #297 for some pictures of what I mean.
Any how very nice job hatetowait.

Nice job!

So how well does it work? Do you feel more power? How's the sound?

well it is just slightly louder. I bet once I put the new modifed front airbox it will perform better. Part one is more cosmetic and engine dress up(and to clean up the engine bay a little...man that black plastic silencer box is huge..lol)Part two is going to take some time though...thanks all for the comments..

yea I got the idea for the breather from the turbo kit photo that was on here
http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/a...2&d=1143773716 we shall see how it works...

Even on turbo cars from the factory the pcv valve is plugged into the intake, if we had a good pic of the gxp engine bay you'd see it too.
In that pic you posted it was done like that because it was easier and less cluttered, otherwise you'd have to run a vacuum hose from the port all the way into the intake and it simply wouldnt look good.

Its better to be safe then sorry, you dont want too much pressure in the crankcase. In your case the hose would only be a couple inches long... and hey you could use a red hose

That's not the PCV line, it's just the fresh air inlet, so that filtered air can be drawn into the engine as the PCV draws the bad air out. I don't know where the PCV valve is, but its vacuum should be connected on the intake manifold (the other side of throttle plate), not the air tube.

Mcphelps is correct the PCV valve is hooked to the left side of the throttle plate.
I would like to see what hatetowait has in mind for the air box, since I am doing something similar but actually leaving the original air box in place, I have also left the resonator in place, although is no longer functioning, so when you look at my engine bay is looks all stock, but it is not at all.

SWEET, that looks great. I would put in a Greddy oil catch can if you plan to race it hard, or maybe thats overkill in a non-turbo application:

Hatetowait:
I have a question is there a reason you went with that 90 degree bend on your new intake as oppose to the more gentle slop seen on the stock intake designed?.

A cop will give a ticket for the shiny pipe either way, so I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I've gotten fix it tickets on Intakes with CARB E.O. #'s on them! I wouldn't let "The Man" decide what you want to do to your car, just do it and enjoy it, you can't fight the flat foot who pulls you over, thats what court is for.

How much did it run you for the elbows and aluminum pipe?

From my reseacrh on the value of cold air induction kits made for the ecotec engine (I found two evaluations), I can assure anyone who installs one that they will experience zilch increase in horsepower (about 2 to 3) but an annoying increase in intake noise. Apparently GM is offering one as an option. It would be interesting to find an evaluation of that one (even if from GM itself).
