Ok did some updates. trimmed out the Elbow on the bend for a more free flowing, and modified the stock front air box. Removed all the resonators from the front and opened up the intake mouth quite a bit. I was going to do a ram air but just decided to do this based off of the feedback from vette owners (their airbox is about the same location) and researching on the subject. It would be awesome to raise the radiator shroud up over the intake so both the radiator and intake get the cool air. the way it is now is nice as there is a ramp (radiator shroud) and goes straight into the modified intake. So what have I noticed? Well I only had her up and down my drive way and she growls much louder now. I am pretty happy so far and can't wait to test it out on the street. will post more feedback once I drive some. I wish I had a dyno though.
Isn't there an air sensor somewhere in the tubing? Where did you put that?

NOT WAITING ANY MORE!
I am still thinking of later adding a ram-air to it..but for now I am quite happy with the new growl of the engine and can switch it back to stock if I like. I drove around yesterday and it really grows at WOT can't really tell if it got any faster as my car feels faster every day and I always chirp the tires on most takeoffs....kinda weird
on the way home yesterday I took a corner fast in 2nd and then when I shifted to 3 I actually got thrown back a little in my seat for the first time. I finally hit the sweet spot I don't think it was my intake just a perfect shift but man did she growl......I would love to dyno the car with stock air box and then my creation to see if it does anything . I am guessing it has to help a little.....anyone want to dyno my car? I'm in the Milwaukee or chicago area
well as for cost
this is what it cost me
here is the cost of parts to do this(total price with shipping+tax etc rounded up to nearest dollar):
breather filter $11.00
90 deg silcon elbow 2.75"-3" $30.00 (would change to 45deg)
3" coupler silicon w/clamps $ 9.00
2 more stainless clamps $ 3.00
3" polished tubing (2 pipes) $37.00
part two
extra stock intake $65.00 (I did not want to chop up my original) total price $155.00
I bet you could get a stock intake cheaper and find some of the elbow cheaper if you wanted blue or black (very common silicon hose colors)
Part 1 incase anyone wants to check it out My stock intake mod part 1
Where did you get the pipe and tubing?
I would like to give this a shot.
I got it on ebay motors section all brand new in the Inter-cooler parts section...can email you the links if you like. 3" inter-cooler piping is pretty common. The elbows are harder to find in colors. I have an extra 3" polished pipe with bend (same as the one I used as I bought it in pairs[cut down mine about 2"]) if you are interested

Yes the air sensor is on the stock air-box lid (you can see it in the photo right next to where the polished pipe is connected to the air-box)and I used the stock air box lid. I only modified the ribbed stock air pipe(black rubber) and bottom of stock air-box.
When you add the GM or Kappa CAI you have to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset the ECM, did you do that also??
no I did not and not sure if I should. I never disconnected the stock air sensor and thought that the ECM would learn on it's own the increased airflow. Anyone think I should reset it??
The ECM with time will compensate for the better flow (if it is there), since you have not replace the most important part if I read your descriptions correctly, and that is the filter itself, this is the part I am playing with or until K&N comes out with theirs in the summer for our Solstice.

yes I did not replace the actual filter yet....I just made the path to the filter less restrictive and I am hoping less restrictive to the throttle body also. I was checking the corvette forums and they got gains from modifying the stock air-box and then even more once the put a K&N in there. Once K&N comes out with one I am putting it in there and hope this translates to the solstice too. Any other companies make performance OEM drop in filters?
Thanks for the info, I did it backwards after I SAW your post, I sawed off all the resonator's from the front. Now I am ordering the tubing off ebay. I will also do the K&N when it comes out. I test drove it a bit and the sound is much different. I could hear the tone start to change as the ecm picked up the new air flow. I installed the Vector tuned ecm on Friday, used the "Perfect Finish Kit" to detail the car Saturday and chopped up the air box on Sunday. What a great weekend.

I am curious as to how yours is since you have the retune....I don't...I got in the car today and it was funny as the sound caught me off guard when I gunned it I would love to see yours once you get it finished...I am still unsure if I am going to try a "ram-air" to my intake. I have the plans in my head just cant figure out how to fabricate it
Has anyone else noticed the two oval holes in the underhood right above the airbox intake? It looks like it is dying to be converted into a cold air induction.... My Sky also has these... do you think it is for a future performance hood?
