NA airbox elimination

Hello all- Ithink I posted my questions in the wrong area,so here goes..
installed the venom brace..easier to do by removing the air muffler/silencer box.
Question: Do I need to reinstall the box?
Is it's sole purpose to reduce air intake sound, or is it an essential part of the airflow engineering ? Being downstream of the mass airflow sensor, if the hole was plugged and airtight, I would think it would not change/affect the computer. Any thoughts on this? Seems like a big lump there for nothing. I am retaining the stock air filter/induction system otherwise.
I'm not interested in a CAI ,just want to eliminate the lump. Any suggestions for plugging the 'hole"?
I thought a disc of suitable material, silicone the perimeter, use original clamp and be done. Thanks in advance!
All the best,
John

The 2.0 cars are very sensitive to air flow at the MAF. I have not read of similar sensitivity for the 2.4 cars.

But from your description I am confused at what box you are proposing removing. Can you provide more info or better yet a picture?

Number 10 in the following pic. I don't think there is anything similar in the GXP.

Haven't had an issue since 2006. Found a PVC threaded plug that fit the hole perfectly from Home Depot and just tightened it down.

The LV Venom brace can not coexist with the resonator box on the NA cars.
You can not put it back, so you need to plug the hole.

IIRC Dori-San called it the mallet mod because he cut the end off a mallet head to plug the hole.

Was it Dori-San? I couldn't remember who named it that.
