Can someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I can create a CAI by removing the resonator box.
Plugging the hole going to the resonator.
Then, when there is a less restrictive filter available, stick that inside the current filter box.

Has anyone tried adapting the filter used by GM for their CAI to fit inside the current box?

Yes, but the filter use by GM or KappaSpher can not be use with our present filter box, need to wait for K&N this summer for ours.

You can remove the box, plug the hole, and put in a K&N but it will not have the visual impact of a GM CAI. GM CAI, love the looks and the sound!!!!

The sound will be somewhat similar without the resonator box and the K&N filter, and Yes it does not look as good but then the performance difference is negligible and the price, well, let's say is a lot less.

I took off the resonator, plugged the hole. then cut off the front resonator intake, using the orig filter, I have to say yes the sound sound was great and it ran better. I had it for 3 weeks that way, then I got my GM cai and the performance is better and sound just a little better.

But if you don't have the cash..get out the dremil and you have the same effect. Just be sure to unplug the battery for 30 minutes to reset the ECM.

The problem Pure_Fun, is that you left the biggest ristriction and that is the original filter, if let's say the K&N would have been available then the performance would have been pretty much the same.

You are oh so right Latin Venom, I have the flat K&N filter on my Porsche and it does make a big difference. Now I have to get or wait for a K&N cone filter for the PURE. Although I have not looked or researched the K&N for the GM cai...will have to do that now.

Just thought I'd mention that you can get on K&N's e-mail list if you want them to tell you when their filter is ready for us by signing up at their website. There are enough members on the list that I'm sure someone will share it with the forum when it happens this summer but if you want a personal message, go and sign up!

I was at Pep Boys and they had a K&N cone filter the same size as on my GM-CAI it was $68 but the box was opened and it was their only one, so I will check back and get a sealed box.

So LV, this will give me the free beathing filter that I need, right??

When I was talking about filters is was a replacement to the stock filter from K&N that is not available yet.
It seems you have the GM Performance accessories CAI, not the same thing at all.
If I were you I would leave it alone other than taking the sponge cover off, the overall improvement should not be that significant, plus you are now adding an oil type of filter to a design that was not intended for that use.

For $50 you can put together an actual CAI at AUTOZONE. They have Air Raid products.

They do not make one to replace the OEM filter as of yet.
But if you are talking about making your own CAI, yes there is at least one member that already did that, and showed some pictures of his work.

Okay, thanks LV, I'll leave the original filter on. I ran a couple of days with the sponge cover and and took it off a few days ago, that was a big big improvement.
