You seem to be the only one in this thread who is not "getting along". No I could not have been down a well for 70 years because I'm only 46 years old. Unless you are a Jap, why are you so offended ? Also the pattern of firing is different than you might expect. It fires on one power bank then the other. so its Bang...Bang ....pause....pause on one side and the other side is pause....pause.... Bang... bang. Harley's have a uneven cadence . The engine does not fire every 360 degrees it fires at 405 degrees and 315 degrees (amazing that they even run) giving that better than a V-8 sound. A sound just begging for the throttle to be blipped or punched. So all can hear its intoxicating masculine rumble. Aftermarket company's do make a equal length header for the WRX and the car does lose the rumble. Interesting enough the factory un-equal header still does a better job over all, power wise. I think it would be very interesting if some aftermarket company would come up with a header that would really change the way the in-line 4 sounds. A sound that taunts you to hit the gas and let everyone know, thats a Pontiac.

Okay, so what is the point you are trying to get across? Your last paragraph makes no sense, just look around at the vendors here. There is only so much you can do with the exhaust, this car sounds different from SRT-4s (wish we sounded more like them), Hondas, etc. due to wheelbase, cams, turbocharger (for the GXP guys), etc.

If you want a truly different sounding car, go buy an RX-8. Its a rotary, no pistons, so you will get a different sound.

Anybody who buys a car or an exhaust for the sound, other than to cut it to a minimum dB level while optimizing power output, is not only stupid with their money, they obviously weren't loved enough as a child and desperately need attention. There is nothing more annoying than listening to a masterpiece guitar solo on your car stereo and having it completely drowned out by some A-hole with a 140hp honda with a fart can, or a Harley pull up in the next lane and not have the common decency to either drop behind you, or make a turn and get the hell away from you for miles. That behavior should be illegal on the street - period. You can't even hear emergency sirens over a harley under acceleration with straight pipes. I love the looks of the bikes, love riding free, but a muffler doesn't impact/ruin those experiences at all, and it makes you a decent citizen at the same time. Perhaps it should also be acceptable for big foot trucks to run over cars on the road because they can. After all, why should they SHARE the road with other vehicles and drivers who are content to obey the law and mind their own business.

Kappster, I am with you. I've never heard a straight 4 that sounded good. Never. Tony's exhaust sounds the best of any that I've heard but it is way unacceptably loud. Annoyingly so. I absolutely love the sound of a pancake 4 cylinder. It is delicious to hear a WRX Sti roll by at 3000 RPM in 1st gear. Yes, I really wish I-4s could be made to sound like that. No such luck.

Well Kapp, being that you don't seem to like "Japanese Cars" just the sound of some. Perhaps you should buy a 911 (Would that be a "Kraut Kar"?)Or you could do the R & D yourself to produce the sound you want. Heck, Jesse James does it every week on "Monster Garage"

I, for one, would love to discuss a way that we can make our little 4 cylinders sound like badass V8's! Believe me...I'm trying! I've had a custom 3" cat back installed with just a Vibrant Technologies race muffler welded in. At high RPMs it sounds fantastic (although it was recently compared to an Asian two wheeled vehicle) but we're going to try to add a 12" resonator to bring the tone down to where I'd like it. If successful, I'll post some audio clips of before and after.
