The K&N site makes it very easy to search for replacement filters by make / model - I just went through all the other small I4 GM cars and was encouraged to see that the G6 filter pictured on the K&N site looks remarkably like the stock Solstice.
With this piece of data I called my local Pontiac dealer and asked if the G6 part number was the same as the Sol.
Unfortunately he told me that the Solstice airfilter part number is unique to the Solstice - seems like this was not taken from the GM parts bin as with so many other parts.
I would have put money on the fact the the Sol recycled some other airbox but it seems not the be the case.
There s a section on the K&N website - click on replacement, then select vehilce - where you can request K&N to look ito manufacturing a replacement part. I registered the Sol today and suggest that others that are interested in this stock mod swap do the same - we may be able to prompt K&N into bumping the Sol up the 'To-Do' list if they get a lot of interest.
The K&N site says it will send an e-mail when they make that part - I'll post with a part number if I get an e-mail anytime soon!
Oh well, we can rip the resonator off for now and then wait for the replacement filter in due course.
BRITSol, just finished doing just about the same thing you did. I put in the request at K&N. Didn't call the dealer, but did some searching for OEM filter and couldn't even find one. I think maybe the dimension comparison at a parts store might yield something that will fit.

I removed the resonator and of all things used a tractor tire tube patch. The patch is thick, sticky on one side, 4 inches round, and black. I centered this up and placed over the hole, then slid the original clamp over this and tightened it up. Nice and smooth across the hole, great seal and trimmed the excess off on the back of the clamp. Looks and works great and best of all only $3. Guess I need to get around to taking some pics to illustrate this. But definitely better than a plastic cap.

I am working on my own stock airbox mod. I purchased a stock air box off a dismantled sole and then some custom piping. I am going to remove the baffles on the air box it self and some other goodies, I will post it once it's done. It should be pretty cool. First I have to take her back to the dealer for the sagging seat and hood alignment as the gap is greater on one side than the other
if you build your own be carefull.. 90* bends will kill performance! i learned this when looking for info on my custom intakes for my 2000 supercharged grand prix GTP and 2004 supercharged monte carlo ss.
This thread isn't really about building a custom CAI. It is more about removing the resonator, plugging the hole that leaves behind and then replacing the stock air filter with a free-er flowing one, say, from K&N and possible adding some more holes in the stock airbox to improve ventilation.
Currently K&N do not have a part number for a replacement filter for the Sol.
The current stock intake has been described as being pretty close to a CAI in that it takes air in from the front of the car and the stock intake pipes are pretty smooth.

Well I can say one thing for sure....you guys have already given me much food for thought.
I also am about to elevate my age to 73 but I still love to make a car my very own....and performance.
My next job is already an appointment to take out the rear exhaust pipes and muffler and bring them out in front of the rear wheels like I did my camaro.....should be more impressive and I think I will get a boost from no muffler as well.
I added two hood scoops that are non-functional ...... but what the heck....right?? Right now I am looking into a cold air intake system and believe it wont cost me all that much to do...and then of course, now that I've seen the striping on pics, this will be my next try.
No pics at present but I will post when I'm done. (For the record mine is fire enging red because it was the only one they could get their hands on) YES...OF COURSE IT'S A TURBO ENGINE AND HAS ALL THE TRIMMINGS...LIKE LEATHER. LOL

After reading through this thread i should post pics of the quick job we just did on my intake. I have been running the car with the bone stock intake since the plan has always been to fabricate our own. We just haven't had the time. So, the other night I pulled the stock intake in one piece. We started fitting different tubes, silicone elbows, etc to see what will work. In a nutshell we didn't have the time or supplies to build anything fancy. But I also didn't feel like putting the stock intake back on. After seeing this thread Todd mentioned the paint cap. I found one in the shop and stuck it in the hole, flush to the ledge, and tightened the clamp. Next we found a piece of scrap 3" tubing with a bend to go over the front support. Todd then cut the stock, hard plastic tubing, just in front of the MAF. The 3" tubing mates to the stock plastic tube with a piece of silicone tube. We flared the 3" tube to 3 1/2" and I stuck an old S&B cone filter, off my wifes Durango, on the end. Talk about an ugly, yet functional set-up. LOL
My results:
I noticed a little more throttle response throughout the RPM range. No noticeable difference in power below 4,000 RPM. Decent surge in power above 4,000 RPM.
Also, I did not notice any difference in sound at all while casually driving it. I noticed a BIG difference in sound at WOT! Not a loud obnoxious sound but a nice performance oriented sound.
All in all, I like it. It's cheasy looking but it did serve the purpose. We were kidding around about offering a "Budget Intake" kit that would include a paint cap, hunk of scrap tubing, old dirty filter and silicone tube and maybe a hack saw to cut the stock tube.
