Surprised by GXP Exhaust on 2.4L

From the day I bought my base model, I knew it would have to have a dual exhaust. I immediately came on the forum and learned that the GXP exhaust will pretty much bolt right up except for the rear fascia. So I ordered the fascia and began browsing the forum. Sure enough I found one relatively close. I installed it today and I think it looks way better...it really evens out the back end.

However, I was very surprised by how much different it sounds. I figured the base and GXP exhausts were pretty much the same with an extra tip welded on the GXP exhaust...however, it sounds completely different. Its definitely louder, deeper, and more raspy. It has more popping on decel and a bit more resonance as well. I dont feel like the power is any different (I didnt expect it to be though).

Overall, I like the look and sound of it! Im impressed that a relatively inexpensive mod can change the car so much!

Nice! I bet it looks really good! Good to hear it was an easy mod as well. I personally like the solo performance SQR1 exhaust with the center dual exhausts.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a GXP exhaust for sale for BEST OFFER plus around $100 in shipping. Unless you can drive to Buffalo, NY and pick it up.

I did the same install, turbo exhaust on a 2.4. My experience was exactly the same. I did some 0-60 runs using my G-Tech and measured no difference in power. Better look and (arguably) better sound are the only results.

Excelsior: Have you gotten a shipping quote for a one-piece exhaust, or are you guessing at the $100 ? By the way, cutting the pipe for shipping is a real questionable idea. I tried to reassemble one and it is no picnic.

The dual exhaust makes all the difference in the world as far as looks on the Solstice. I personally wouldn't own the car if it were not available in dual exhaust.

How much did the mod end up costing you?
That's exactly what I want to do.

wouldn't the gxp have a lower restriction then then the due to turbo consideration?

that would account for the added sound

Yes. The muffler is actually a bit shorter, too.

Well the rear fascia is normally 272 dollars if you order it through a dealership. However, gmpartsdirect.com has it for 160 but then you have to have it shipped which is another 40 bucks. If you know someone on he inside at a local dealer you may be able to get it for around 160 and not have to pay shipping.

Then the exhaust just depends. The thing is a ONE piece exhaust system. everything from the tips to muffler to the pipe leading forward. So its virtally impossible to ship. Ive heard of people giving them away but i never saw anyone actually doing it when i was looking. I finally found a local guy and he asked for 100 bucks. SO i gave him 100 and went and picked it up.

The whole mod cost me 204 (fascia) + 100 (exhaust) + 10 (gas to pick it up)= 314 dollars.

Not bad considering the after market exausts are twice that with out the fascia.

You would think. The pipe diameter looks to be the same however i didnt measure it, i just eyeballed it.

I didnt measure the muffler sizes either however they look pretty close too and the hangers on the muffler line right up with where the stock hangers lined up (the rubber bushing didnt change positions)...

Anyway, there must be something different about it because it sounds like it flows much better (it just sounds smoother at idle...the stocker you could almost see each cylinder fire as the exhaust puffed)

$100 would be shipping for most locations in the US unless you are nearby the NE. And yes, they have to cut it in order to ship it.

Does the GXP exhaust bolt right up, or do you have to make additional modifications other than a dual facia??

I have Nissan Z drivers scared to even challenge my Soltice 2.4 with the Magnaflow duels and Gxp rear facia. The sound alone makes them nervous to pass me.

Fhaeton,

I'm thinking about installing Magnaflow duals on my 2.4. I'm assuming that it bolts right up. Anything I need to know before installing ? I'm really anxious for the "new" sound.

Thanks.......

Ron
