heres an idea for ya, the drivetrain from an ssr with the 6 speed tranny will fit in the solstice. thats also a 5.3 but 395 horse
Why do you think the SSr drivelinewill fit better? First, its essentially the same LS V8 and transmission as in the C5/C6 vette and GTO, etc, so it fits no better (and the 395 HP version is NOT 5.3 liter).
All LS's are the same basic size except the aftermarket LSX block which is decked for up to 4.5 inch stroke,, and thus larger. The 5.3 liter engine is physically no smaller than the 5.7, 6, and 6.2 litr engines, or for that matter the 7 liter (assesories, headers and intake are bigger on the 7 liter, though, although not enough to matter.
None of these engines "fit" in the sense the factory wants them to fit. None weigh enough different fromone to the other though - you don't save but a handful of pounds between a 5.3 and 6 liter, for example. So, everyone puts in the bigger one

yea i must have had a brain fart thinking otherwise. im going ot see what i can get a 5.7 and 6 speed setup from an 04 gto for. if the price is right i might change it over very soon
Funny how some one says" I want a V8" or " I love the sound of a V8" or I just want to put a V8 in my car just because I want a V8" and some one else says "GM made a great engine turbo combo for my car, why don't you just turbo it?' or " My turbo 4 banger sounds good to me" DUDE HE WANTS A V8. If you cant help him out get out of his way
Now that I am done with the "funny stuff"
The front wheel drive LS V8's are the same size as the rear wheel drive LS V8's in there long block configuration. BUT after you put the accessories on they are different size. The front wheel drive engines are shorter from front to rear because the VERY compact accessory's drive system. BUT it makes the front wheel drive engine wider than the rear wheel drive equipped engines. You cant add width to the engine for a KAPPA swap. If you want to use the front wheel drive 5.3 you will need to do a complete custom accessory drive system or convert it to the GM rear wheel drive system. It can be done but it aint easy. Better off just swapping a rear wheel drive engine and tranny from a CTSV or Vette or a GTO. But the engines are in the $8,000-$10,000 range as take outs with ALL needed components.

I will own a V6 Kappa even if GM does not offer one as an engine upgrade. I have made my mind up, I want the Cadillac CTS 3.6L V6 with a 6 Speed manual tranny. And I will do the conversion my self if I have too :)
All gm's late model 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 6.3, 7.0 engines are of the same physical size. It wont fit any better then an ls2, it's the same package.
No they are not. A package is totally different than a long block.
The GM LSx long block from the 4.8 to the 6.0 (I am not sure about the 7.0) are basically the same outside size without the oil pan, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and ALL other bolt on accessories. BUT the accessories and there locations that make the engine a package very from vehicle to vehicle. For example they have something like 4 or 5 different oil pans that will affect the lower cross member clearance. The trucks have a much taller intake manifold that has the intake at the top and that will affect hood clearance. The cars have a manifold with the intake at either the front or rear end of the manifold. If you have a rear oriented intake like on every front wheel drive GM V8 that I can think of, how can it breath under the windshield up against the fire wall? Can the manifold be turned around? Not as easy as it sounds. Trucks also have larger alternators and some have two alts. that will affect hood clearance. The front wheel drive V8's have a significantly different accessory arrangement compared to the rear wheel drive V8's. This also affects the heater lines and radiator hoses and were the AC lines are routed. Front wheel drive V8's have an exhaust system that is TOTALY UNCOMPATABLE with rear wheel drive platforms. Several exhaust manifolds form different front wheel drive V8 cars will have the cats or pipes going to different angles. The front wheel drive engines have a GM V6 bell housing bolt pattern and the rear wheel drive V8's have the SBC bell pattern.
Bottom line is YES some V8's WILL fit better than others even if the engine long block is a 4.8 or 7.0. If you TOTTALY strip off ALL the bolt on stuff and put on all custom stuff, then they are the same.

I would suggest if your going through the trouble to install a 5.7 liter LS1 which can be had for around 1500/2500 dollars off the Corvette forums in the used parts sections...
An ls6 isn't much more either..
New an ls6 can be had for??? 4500 dollars..
If your spending the money your considering ...I'd say go with either an ls1, or ls6..
or maybe an ls2 if the computer could be setup
I don't know the details of the pcm of the solstice to the V8 so your really better going with the flow on the kits..(Ie. Reluctor wheel was a problem in ls2 to C5 swap that I remember)
