6sp Aisin transmission

I have the Tech. specs from the Frankfurt Auto show for the 6sp Aisin trans.

I would guess this will be the future 6sp for the Solstice GT/GPX(what ever) since it's already in use in the Caddy CTS..??

-Improved shift quality & reduced gear noise throught new gear train

-Installed in Cadillac CTS, Commodore, Tundra, Tacoma, Land Cruser Prado

TQ capacity 450Nm
Center distance 85mm
Gear Ratios:
1st: 3.791-5.232
2nd: 2.190-2.644

I hope this doesnt decrease the amount of torque the tranny could handle.
People will want to up the hp in the turbo solstice, so i hope the tranny wont be the weakest link.

Very close, it's 331.9 Foot pounds.

Does anyone know the ratings for the 5 speed that's currently being used? Mallette is using it for the 400 ft lbs of the LS2, so it would seem the 5 speed is a bit stronger.

Anybody doing a mallet conversion would be smart to upgrade the tranny at the same time...Otherwise its a time bomb waiting to blow..

You'd figure with a 20k price tag a tranny would be included, i just dont see that package being worth more then half that.

It's interesting to note that the AR5 is a top-loader, while the AY6 is not. May not be as easy to swap as we think. I'd rather go straight to a T56 anyway, though.

Mallett may be beefing up the tranny to better handle the power of the V8. Also, I suppose it is possible that the stock tranny is conservatively rated at 225 HP. Mallett seems confident it will handle the power.

I am not sure I will want to see a 6 speed in the Solstice turbo. As long as it has a good power curve, I think a 6 speed will be overkill. I know I am probably going against the feeling of most people these days, but I think in most applications 6 speeds are really unnecessary. The extra shift isn't worth the extra ratio. But it depends on the power curve. If you will have to really keep the engine on boil to get the power, the extra gear would be good to have.
