Anyone had this done or would have it done once you're informed?

My performance shop installer who is well known for his turbo experience and list of racing credentials, 1st 7 second Supra, is having this done to my exhaust manifold, down pipe, and other parts of my Hahn Stage III system before he installs. It is a "Ceramic thermal barrier coating". I originally told him yes without research since he is the expert and I am glad I did after reading up about it. It will delay my install in that the turn around time to have this done takes a few weeks but I know it is worth it. It definitely won't hurt and I feel that I am making a better call on my install. I feel my install is being done the right way in that I am doing my part to help reduce the engine compartment heat produced by the turbo and it's components. Do not mistake this ceramic thermal barrier coating process for colored based paints that are called ceramic. Check this link out as it is something you may want to consider. Follow the links for automotive coatings and related articles. I have seen performance cars at shows that had this application so I know it is being used by people in the know. The good part is that I am not without my car since he will only take it once all parts are in and done. Also he ported the exhaust manifold and other parts.

yes i am about to do the same .........
my header was "suposed to be ceramic coated " when i picked it up - i have no clue what company did the work or if it was just painted ???? but that is flaking off and does a crap ass job as far as controlloing the heat

i sent for information and estimate from a company ( JET-HOT ) that my mechanic referred me to and received a big packet and cd explaining the various processes and product solutions to choose from.........as you said - it sounds quite impressive and they seem to have the big name references to go with ( john force gives an interview on the cd and some other dragster guys , nascar etc etc .......the packet includes test results and articles from enthusiast mags ........goes as far as to say manifold is touchable in 20 min

I WISH I KNEW NOW exactley what range of temps for certain - i am guessing 1400 - 1600 ???.......... if thats a low guess hit me with a pm
i'm leaning toward the "sterling 2000" ( have price for that ) but there is a hotter level option to choose from

i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one - believing this is a good idea !.... i am doing the manifold & also getting one other part (that hot pipe / tube off the whatcha ma call it a/r thing.....
... i had my dump tube welded to the exhaust so that would be tooooooo much to undo ( couldn't find a flange) and didn't think about it then @#$%^&* oh well - yuh got me thinking - adding work to my job - THANKS ...lol...

Everytime I've ever bought headers for my muscle cars, I've always got them ceramic coated from Jet-Hot. The claim about touching them within 20 mintues is fairly accurate. In my '70 Chevelle, I was able to swap out the spark plugs after some hard runs within 10 mintues of shutdown wearing some of the thin Mechanix gloves. With non-coated headers, I would have been burnt for sure!

My Focuz header was shipped directly to JetHot for coating, I am also getting the Sterling 2000 coating. They said it will be done and shipped on Wednesday of next week.

Just make sure you clean them well before you fire the car up, you don't want any finger prints in that shinny finish.

That's re-assuring and good to hear Pure-Sol. Now I know it works.

. i figure my mechanic will let me tie up one of his racks while i wait on the "ceramic coating " .......that was his idea too !!...... and intend to have the egt kit probes drilled 1st .( he's been wanting to do that )

.... ship off the manifold and let'm get the gauge in.... swap sensor and T-stat - while we wait ...... i believe jet-hot said 5 days turnaround from when they receive them........ we'll see ....lol.... but between the knick knack stuff for him to do - i won't feel bad tying up his rack........ its not like i'll let'm push it out the way all week !!! the only safe place there is up on a rack !............

THANKS PURE SOL - for the amen on jet-hot !!......... glad to hear it........ i wish we could send the dump tube too ( but since we welded it ?????? ).... ..... wonder where i could find THE FLANGES to fit ?? and have them with me ??? hehehe........

I work at a coatings shop. The Jet Hot polished ( kentucky chrome) heat shield is fine. Its rated at about 1200-1500 F. Aside from lowering under hood temps, ceramic coatings in the exhaust system reduces the rate of corrosion(mild steel). Plus it increases scavenging& looks better than discolored or rusty headers. I'm partial to a coating we use which we use inside & out on the turbo, exhaust port, valve faces, combustion chamber & piston tops. Its rated 2500 F. After I give the RPI GT cat back a trial run I'll coat in that inside & out excluding the inside of the mufflers. ( If I coat it they will void my warranty, oh well)
