Has anyone blown up and rebuilt their 5L40E transmission yet? Is there anyone doing modifications to them? Are there ANY beefier parts available for them? Torque converters? ANYTHING? Will a larger transmission fit in these cars?
Is it possible to put in a 5 speed manual WHEN this transmission blows? What is involved in the changeover?

I was watching some car tech show on a channel like Rush a couple of months ago and the guy showed how to make an automatic tranny into a manual tranny. I thought that was interesting and it was from a modern car.

But I am interested in the answer myself.

It's always possible to do something

I would really like to see how a larger stall would do in the car.

I just put one in the Trans Am, and it changed things soooo much.

It'd get rid of a lot of turbo lag IMO.

The 5L40E has been around for a while. Performance shops that rebuild transmissions can fit it with beefier torque converter and improved valving in some cases.
Are you adding a supercharger and plan to go beyond the 300 or so horsepower the 5L40 is meant to contain ?

It is worth noting that the 5L40E is used on Cadillac and BMW. For the solstice It's a rather beefy transmission out of the box.

It's a transmission meant for motors that run at higher than usual RPM's such as 4 cylinders and some V6's.

On the BMW boards they are saying that the 5L40 often tends to lose reverse as it ages... a common sign of aging in a 5L40E is to get in the car one morning and discover that reverse no loger works. Plan on seeing this in cars with well over 100K miles....
