mrshimmy,

Your flywheel is a great weight reduction idea, if some one can build one without rather severe vibrations issues. This makes your flywheel suggestion a little naive, because no one has reported an install without this issue.

Other than wheels, the drive shaft is next best solution I have seen to reducing weight in the drive system.

Feel free to disagree but bring facts and data.

At least in the v8 world. It is good to know, later on in my cars life, I will have a driveshaft to keep up. The flywheel is really the best price, weight reduction for drivetrain loss.

Yes the clutch place that I use ( which sells HP stuff all over) just laugh at lighter flywheels for drag racing, remember you need that low end grunt (torque) to get off the line. A lighter flywheel is fine for a higher revving engine, but if you want to come off the corners torque is what you need. Think of the Honda S2000 engine, great fun if you want to shift gears every other second, but it wont come out of the hole. Thanks Norm

I wasn’t saying a flywheel for sol in specific. Just in general, a flywheel is a better thing to have a weight reduction on for drivetrain loss. Replacing a driveshaft is mostly for safety due to high hp, not to save drivetrain weight/loss. I haven’t even looked into a flywheel for the sol. There are way too many other power options for far less with much more benefit.

On a side note, DSM folks like replacing the flywheel with a lighter one. Of course they are scrapping for any hp they can get and a quicker rev to get to the boost for their silly huge turbo, but it does work for them. 2.0 Turbo 7k redline.

She is done! It is ready to ship tommorow to me. I did get this note though. Can anybody help me out.

"The guys in testing told me that it ran great. They also specified to make sure who ever does the installation uses an indicator of some type. The CV joint should be under ten-thousands. "

Indicator to balance it in the middle? Cv joint??

I think they mean a dial indicator, to make sure the connection to the CV joint is not eccentric.

Looking forward to hearing the details (specifically the weight difference).

I don't know if the automatic is different. This thing is wierd. You pick it up and it feels light, then your drawn to the heaviness of the ends. I have yet to weigh it. I forgot to bring it to the clinic. I have an accurate scale there. I'll try to get it mounted this week
if I don't finish tearing out my dash.

I don't think you guys will see to much gain with a carbon fiber drive shaft. As you guys already probably know the 350z comes stock with a carbon fiber driveshaft. I would assume the engine would be a little more responsive and you would possibly put a little more hp to the ground.

Any crumbs: Some weight numbers please or is it no info because there is very little weight difference and are slightly embarrassed to posting anything? :-)

It's all ok, just want to know.

Thanks in advance,
