   Hahns Upgrade or LS2 Swap

Hey everyone. Just curious what you would recomend in my situation. I just purchased an 08 GXP, and I'm already itching for more horsepower. I've done a lot of searching of this forum, and there is a lot of good info, but I thought I would get some opinions anyway.

I want to do some serious work next fall, and I'm weighing out 2 options.

Option 1: Wait for Hahns Racecraft to develop something for the GXP to get me in the 400hp range, I'm guessing cost would be similar to their 2.4L Stage 4 at $5275.00

Option 2: LS2 (or LS3 by the time I'm ready) swap, done myself I'm thinking of a cost around $10,000.00

My main concerns are driveability/reliability, horsepower, and mileage. This is for mainly every day cruizing, but I would like to do some drag racing and some roundy-round stuff occasionaly too. Also, I feel I'm a little biased towards the V8 swap, as I like the low end torque that only a big 8 gives. But I'm open minded, so any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Trade the GXP on a Mallett, or an NA and put in the V-8 seems a waste to pull the motor out of a GXP. Nice motor 100,000 warranty or just go buy a Vette. For what you have in the GXP and $10,000 you could have had a turn key Mallett

Just bought a 2008 NA as well. I started to go with Hahn but it took them forever, they claimed they were waiting to make sure the car was the same. Got sick of waiting, ended up getting a brand new ls2 for free. So monday my car goes in for surgery.

If you really want the LS2, lil goat is right on point. BTW, upping the GXP to 400hp should cost no more than $2500. All you really need is a turbo, manifold and some ECU tuning. The unknowns are whether the stock injectors are up to the task of 400hp as there are no aftermarket one's yet. Stock internals are forged and SHOULD be able to handle that kind of power. If an old ass SR20 motor (crank is the only forged part in that motor) can handle 400whp, GM's much newer tech LNF should be able to also.

Thanks for the options everyone. I didn't do too badly price wise on my GXP ($2000.00 off sticker value). For the options I wanted upgrading a base model equivalently would have placed it within $1500.00, so I basically paid the same price. Since I knew I wouldn't be doing anything right away, it seemed like the better choice.

Also I don't care for the look of the modern Corvette. The last good looking Vette, in my opinion, was produced in 1967.

As for the Mallet conversions, I'm up in Northern Alberta (distance factor), and I'm also pretty handy. Can't imagine paying for something that I believe I can tackle myself. But thanks again everyone, and any more opinion are very much welcome.

proggod, got any lines on another free LS2? LOL.

if you are a power junkE. I say trade it back in for a base model solstice. Save some money there. Buy the LS* motor and twin turbo that thing. All in all a SH!T load of power. That is if you really have that 10K to spend and trade in for a base.

As I mentioned, the base model with the options I wanted was very close to what I paid for my GXP. Not really saving anything apreciable there. Plus, I'm a year away from doing this, so in the mean time I like having the power I do have.

I have thought that turboing an LS motor would be cool though. In a dream state, I was thinking I could purchase an LS block take it to the local speed gurus, have them build me a 5.3L and then twin turbo it. That way, I'd have a bit of bottom end torque, mid and upper horsepower, all while having some "fuel efficiency" LOL.

Regardless, I'm not planning on trading this car in, I'm just looking at the pros and cons of upgrading the stock 2.0 or peforming a swap. Thanks again.

Got one of those on my viper, always have tro worry about overheating in AZ. Not to mention there is no way you can race with one. Any long term race your going to have major heat issues.

Just tell him the facts

Overheating here isn't a problem (northern Alberta) and he isn't racing anything, it's just a toy. I've tried, but he ain't budging!

OK well if your handy and have some money being you have a GXP, how about a Supercharged GXP take the turbo off and fit a Supercharger already have the intercooler. I know a guy in Tilley, Alberta who could do it, and tune the ECM to make it run.

I think if you're planning to do something in a year that there will be some pretty nice upgrades for the GXP by then. My vote is a high HP 4 cylinder, even though I love the LS series V8's.

Lil Goat, intersting idea...Hmm... I'll have to ponder that one! I think that Mallard may be right too, when I'm ready to do this there might be some good solid performance options for the 2.0. Thanks again everybody. Keep the ideas/opinions coming!

Nothing beats the sound of a V8

But then again I am shooting for 600+hp as well.
