Hi there V8 community. I've posted in a couple of threads already, but thought it might be a good idea to start a thread of my own to ask questions in.
I read the latest threads by Robert Ashby, and have followed the Punisher thread (off and on) for a few years. Many of you already know me from my Green Supercharged car and my involvement with West coast clubs.
Last week, I purchased a 2006 Solstice that had been converted to an LS3 using a Werks kit and a couple off duty GM techs for expertise. So far, I have only driven it a mile or two, as it was dark and rush hour traffic in Vancouver when the car was available. I live in the interior of British Columbia Canada, where there is no traffic to speak of, and currently a lot of snow. The car will be shipped to me next week.
So that's the preamble.
I could describe the car, but if you go to my garage, and look at car 2 you will see it. The install looked pretty typical to me, with a well fitting LS3 coupled to a T56 Transmission. And a fairly stiff clutch which engaged pretty close to the floor and seemed to function reasonably. The rear diff was just replaced, indicating that it may have taken some abuse from the previous owner. The exhaust is a Werks style true dual with a crossover about mid point. There is a DDM tunnel brace in place and looks like adjustable coil overs for suspension. I did not notice a rear brace of any type, but may have missed it. Body has an RK Sport hood and Razzi spoiler, Norms Fenders, and rear fascia. Coupe style or modified headlights with black bezels, Cobalt or black painted door handles, and Asanti wheels with 275-40-18 rears and 255-45-18 fronts. Front brakes have slotted rotors and Wilwood big brake calipers.
As I have never owned a car this modified, I am sure I will have many questions. I'm not afraid of it, in spite of it having no traction control. Likely it won't be much different from my old Firebird Formula 400, that I owned as a 20 year old. It could run high 12s, was jacked up ass over tea kettle and got me in trouble once or twice. It was an automatic and that kept me safe as a kid. My next car was a manual 78 Corvette and I managed to total it by downshifting on black ice on a bridge.
OK - enough rambling. First question for the experts:
I see many of you do not use the Corvette plastic coil covers. Rick Flory has moved the coils to the front bumper and Punisher has mounted wire covers under the coil packs. Both look good to me. But is there a reason the plastic Corvette covers are not used? Heat? Clearance issues?
Mine looks a bit of a mess with wires running everywhere, and a clean up may be my first project. Any advice here?
